I inherited a job this week. It has a standalone MP580 on a modular climate changer and a bunch of Comm 4 VAVs that are also standalone. Can I run comms to the vavs from the MP580 and schedule the vavs on/off? Also will I be able to show the vavs on the operator display on the MP580. TIA

no, mp580 talks LON/Comm5.
you need something in between like a BCU or jace to co-ordinate comms. either way won't be cheap.
if you have to do it then, I would may be look into something like this:
http://www.centaurusprime.com/Docs/Centaurus%20Prime%20Trane%20Gateway.pdf
gets the vavs to modbus.
then get something like this:
http://www.csimn.com/CSI_pages/BB485.html
gets mp580 to modbus (assuming that you can reprogram the mp to expose or receive points from LON)
then put weblink on top,
It won't be clean or too cheap.

Amigo,
If I wanted to go straight Trane, a BCU would allow the 580 and UCMs to communicate? Already sent a request for a price to my sales guy at Trane.

yes, but you also need to have tracer summit software to program the bcu and make it all happen, also you will need rover software for mp580 if any reprogramming is required.
also, I don't know if the new trane SC unit would be a better option for you than BCU. I don't know if the new SC is stable enough or has comm4 capability, ask your trane guy about it.

SC does not have comm4 capability, you will need a BCU.

I looked at the hardware gateway and found that a comm4 AX driver is cheaper and the driver works great. That is if your using Tridium.

Actually got a price on a BCU and the Summit software and have to say it was alot better than I expected.
