Hey guys

Just wanted to show the people what the Sporlan Q kit is and what comes in it. You hear it mentioned on here from time to time and it comes in handy if your working in remote areas like I do. It allows you to build TXV valves on the spot for a variety of different applications and capacity's. Comes with some bodies, cartridges, and power heads.

the Q kit is the greatest! My old company used to always stock them on our vans. My new one doesnt. Ive tried to talk them into it. If i have to change a txv i usually always put a Qbody in. Best thing that ever came from sporlan.

I carry a Q case and a BQ case on the truck.

Couldn't live without them.

it's a bit pricey to buy it all at one time, but once you start using it, and just refill as you need it is not bad.

I carry them on my truck. Nice to have something that will cover just about any load tonnage we see.

Dang, who do you work for?

I didn't buy both at once. Just built them up, piece by piece. What bugs me is that Sporlan doesn't offer a decent replacement body for the Hussmann impact series valves. They work OK, but they look like hell.

I love them valves. No superheat on start up. Open the ball valves and go.

I've had the Q-body kit for maybe 10 years...or at least since it first came out.

Before that I tried to keep complete valves in common sizes and applications on the truck. No that is pricey.

So I got the kit and returned all those valves and was actually ahead of the game dollar-wise.

It's funny...since I keep my kit well stocked, my supply house has called me numerous times asking to "borrow" a body, powerhead or cartridge because the know I'll have it. ;)

I don't understand how you can change just the internal parts with out changing the head. As well how do this work with different gases. please help me understand only two years out of school but this sounds like very good knowledge please help.

This is for Sporlan's BQ balanced port valves, but it explains the benefits of an interchangeable kit for expansion valves:

The Q and BQ series of valves are great from a service application, and, I think, that Barker actually uses them as OEM valves.

1> Select a valve body. They come in sweat and flare, internal and external equalized and a variety of connection sizes and orientations.

2> Select and install an orifice.

3> Select and install the powerhead. (yep, different gasses and different temp ranges.)

4> Install the valve.

I don't own the "kit" because there are items in the kit that I would never use, but I do stock up on the most common parts that fit the work that I do.

SBQE alllllll day baby! even if it requires re-piping. the 5/8 strainer is worth it.

The power element wrench is sweet. A skinny 1".

A favorite of mine is the Danfoss TUA/TUB kit. They are great in tight areas. Just have to be gentle with the torch.

I got a danfoss kit I can't give it away none of our techs will take it. All of our trucks have the Q kits on em. Great kit...

The Danfoss TUA valves are hopeless... they are small yes.. but they take over 20min to watch the swing from open to close. You need to budget at LEAST 2 hours to set these dam valves up... The Q valves are nice... I use them regularly... the only thing that bothers me is that nobody ever puts the cartridge tag on the cap tube. So when you need to look into a valve is acting up, you have no idea if its the proper valve.

I've had problems with Danfoss TUAs and there lack of control especially on small merchandisers with short suction lines. Replaced with valves from the Q kit. Worked great. Also noted that no one uses the tags. Why I don't know. I guess as long as you know that's all that matter to you right? lol

Proper math skills are essential when choosing the correct danfoss cartridge. I havent had any problem with them. You need to watch any valve for 20 mins to see what it is really doing..

Yeah they're good except when a case reads 404a on the model number sticker but was installed on a 22 system and Someone thinks changing the power head is good enough! hahaha

I do believe they came up with this "LEGO" TX kit idea first!! haha

that one burns me too, i put on the tag and usually mark it too haha but I'm wierd though haha.. I don't know if they have changed cos its been a few years since i used a danfoss "LEGO" valve and the Port identifiers used to be the plastic cap for the case it came in and it had a part to snap over the cap tube line, thise sucked. are they still like that?

OK my question. Q or BQ, I know when idd use a BQ and where a Q wouldn't be a good fot but where would ya use a Q where a BQ wouldn't work just as good? forget about the price or cost of either.

I'm not certain but I think the BQ is just a more tough valve to handle higher pressure refrigerants like 410a.

The BQ valve is a balanced port version of the Q valve. It's made for all common refrigerants and applications.

Bq is a balanced port, Q is not.

Those tags have become unreadable on a lot of the Q-Body valves I've installed over the past five or ten years. I think it's the dissimilar metals causing corrosion of the aluminum tag. They should have made them out of copper. ;)

Actually, they should have a plastic clip-on tag with the cartridge number and color code to match.

Of course, Andy Schoen isn't there any more, so there nobody listening. :(
