Working on a existing lobster tanl in a resturant, the copper to plastic tubing joint keeps leaking,I repaced the
3/8" compression joint, but it still leaks. Any one have any good ideas? The unit is using "hot shot"

Did you put the metal sleeve inside the plastic tubing for support?

I didn't think you could use compression fittings of refreigeration.

I thought he was on the water side.

The compression fitting was "factory" but it leaks there, I replaced the compression fitting with a new one,and can't get a good leak proof joint,it is tough getting the farrel over the plastic I think it may have swelled with time. They use a plastic evaporator coil in the water because lobsters can't stand any exposure to copper it kills them.

If using an insert doesn't help I'm of no help here. Only seen 1 tank in my life.

Can you cut back of piece of the plastic, and restart the compression fitting? just curious.

I tried that, but it didn't work and the plastic tubing appears to have swollen with age, I see no manufacture's tag, I'd like to see if i could get a new evaporator or see they might have a fix, it must happen elsewhere at times.

I ran Into the same problem about a year ago. i replaced the tubing, nut and ferule with air brake tubing and fittings that you should be able to get at any good auto parts store. so far over a year and no leaks. let us know how you make out

Marineland most likly made it. We do not use the plastic tubing any more. We now use coated copper coils.

If your tank has a water pump system go get a water condenser, reverce it, and put a TXV.

If your system has been serviced, with hot shot, you could has some acid in your system that will melt the plastic evap.

Create a chiller for the tank, and you will be much happier.
