I used to wear Justin boots almost exclusively because they don't have deep treads in the soles to hold mud and dirt to drop on the homeowner's carpet, but they wore out too fast.
Have been working in a pair of Georgia Boots for about 6 months now. Comfy and fairly light. No brown/yellow socks, no separation yet.

I guess it must depend on the model. Last fall I purchased a pair of Timberland Pro insulated boots to wear over the winter. Priced in the upper 100s I expected them to do well. And they did. Held up and not once did I have cold feet.
With all that said, the best boots I ever wore were made by Georgia Boot. http://www.georgiaboot.com/ My current non-winter footwear are Carolinas and I have been very happy. http://www.carolinashoe.com/

All boots are crap.
You will have to buy new every 6 to 12 months.
Get used to it.
If I get better than 8 months out of a pair of boots, I'm a happy guy.
I have demolished Red Wings, Georgia, Carolina, Danner, Timerland, Wolverine and others that were more forgettable.
After a fight with the local Red Wing dealer, I'll NEVER buy another pair of those.

First of all, if you didnt have 400 lbs stomping around on them all day they may last longer, that and you kick the equipment.
And trim your toenails, just because they rub through the boots doesn't make the boots poor quality.
You could hook salmon out of a steam with those bad boys.:eek2:

I"m partial to Red Wing 'Pecos' boots. I keep my yellowed toe nails clipped to ensure a long life. My brown pair are 3 years old, my black are 2. Might buy another pair this spring.

Another vote for Red Wings. I buy the composite safety toe black hiking style workboot #6680, very light weight, comfortable, other important safety features and water proof until they get older. Protective toe is not cold in the winter and I can easily get at least 1 1/2 years out of a pair. Its all I have been wearing in the last 6 years, but they are not cheap last pair was $170.

I usually end up with a new pair going into summer and a new pair right out of summer. I've switched from redwings to timberlands and I've been super happy with them, no more red socks. As well as they make a 16E that fits my feet, where redwings are always to narrow in the toe and I get a sore on my toe if I wear them to long.
Sorry to hear they didnt work out for ya.

DITTO!!! I love my Wolverines. I've worn work boots/shoes since 19 and these have to be the best pair I've ever owned. Rugged, laces don't fray as bad as other shoes. COMFORTABLE. PLUS mine are composite toe. That will make for a little peace of mind in that wet walk in. These are the pair I've got.

Yes that's the Canadian link. They probably have more available in the US. The only thing I DON'T like about them is they're not water proof. But generally they're pretty comfortable, composite toed, they let your feet breathe, and are rugged. The stitching has yet to let me down and I've owned them a good 6-7 months now.
Should add too the big selling factor was for me the high slip resistance. I'll throw my DC's (sneakers) on after wearing those and go arse over tea kettle because I'm not used to the lack of traction.

Carhartt used to make boots and they were absolutely the most comfortable pair that I had. Since they stopped making them, I switched to redwing and have been pleased with thier performance so far.

not all red wings are of the same durability. Less expensive models do not last as long. I buy a certain model. About $210. They last between 1 year and 2 years. My current ones I am taking in to be resoled today. Have lasted for 18 months so far and I am re soling them. I get them oiled for free at the red wing store. The eye lits for the laces on these do not break like other red wing models and other manufacturers.
I also think that the nature of the work you do will affect how long your boots last. Greasy Kitchens along with a good diet of condenser cleanings with chemical will cause boots of any make not to last very long. When I caught a lot of that sort of work I'd go through even the best red wings awfully fast.

For me the only boots I can wear all day long walking on concrete is Wolverine DuraShocks, 6" + steel toe. Make sure that you get a pair with the dry-weave/ Thinsulate crap inside them, it keeps your feet dry. Can't have swampfoot now, can we?
I've tried all of the other brands and nothing else works for me. I even tried the newer MultiShocks from Wolverine, and they are OK unless I'm working on a concrete surface all day, which is most days. I wore them for a week before I ordered another pair of DuraShocks, now the Multis are for home use only.
The only downside is the $130-$150 price tag that comes with them. Oh well, its worth it, to me anyway.

I live about 20 minutes away from the Danner Factory Store. Blems discontinued boots usually at least half price. 6" persuit they are swat team boots. I was buying cheap boots every 3 to 4 months. Danners last me 2 years and they are comfortable.

I usually go with the most expensive Red Wings on the shelf but I bought a pair of Wolverine durashock insulated boots to get me through the winter. At 1/4 the price and more comfortable...I'm going to get an uninsulated pair soon.

I've worn Red Wings since 95. There a good shoe IMHO. I used to where the 2156 only. They are more comfortable than any tennis shoe I've ever worn!!
I was only getting about six to eight months and my feet would hurt because the sole was so soft they wear thin, but I liked them anyway.
I started wearing thier 3507 about 2 years ago. They have a differant sole and they last a lot longer. It took about ten days to break them in and they have been good so far. The 2156 I never had to break in.
I don't oil my boots any more because they seem too stretch and then not fit well.
I would try another brand but I have Duck Feet. I where a H width (eeee) and can't find any other brand locally. I won't buy a shoe online if I've never had one on my feet before.
I would like to try Danner. If they are good enough for the US Marines there good enough for me.
Chippewa's are very good
Redwings suck.
Ditto, Ive had 2 pairs at around $190. My wife was giving me a hard time when I bought the last ones. I said but the last ones lasted 3 years, she tried telling me they didn't :argue:
I'm on 3 years and going strong with this pair, still the original leather laces and made in the USA :patriot:
I have worn Redwing 2214 or a similar style for years. I get a new pair every year, and keep a few older pair to wear while welding or forging in the shed.
I tried to be cheap and wear some Wolverine's one summer. They got wet, the cardboard above the sole messed up, and my socks turned red. Two months and they were in the trash.

My Redwings have the "Box Toe" I've had problems with too narrow shoes for years. The proper width, the composite cap and the box has made all the difference.

By far the best boot. Outlasts any other boots I've had. Definitely the most comfortable from day 1. No break in.

I will never, EVER buy another pair of RED Wing anything.
Not only are they expensive trash that hurt for 3 days.
Their distributors are privately owned , meaning they dont have to answer to Red Wing inc.
Ive been ripped off before, but never with as much zeal as My local Red Wing dealers, yes more than one is crooked.

My feet are in better shape at age 45, no problem at all, than they were at age 25.
I credit wolverine durashocks. Somebody else made an important point about width, be sure you buy wide enough and keep in mind your feet swell in the heat on a hot roof. Durashocks tend to crack on the top of the sole when you do many ladders, but it does not seem to detract from the performance or longevity of the boot.

Sounds a lot like my experiences with Red Wing boots.
Years ago, I had a pair of Red Wing boots that were, in short, AWESOME! I put hundreds of hiking miles on them. Didn't damage the soles at all. They were waterproof to the point that they would float.
Get the impression that I liked those boots? You'd be right.
So, when the chemicals from condenser cleaning finally got to those boots and I got tired of wearing the super cheapies from Wal Mart, I bought Red Wings again.
I'd bought several pairs before going to the 'big' Red Wing dealer in my area. He does all the diabetic shoes and other custom work for a LOT of people. People drive hundreds of miles to have this guy make them custom shoes.
I took in a pair of old boots and explained the problems t or 8 mohat I had been having with other boots. He assured me that would NOT happen with HIS boots. I let him fit my feet and paid in advance for the boots. He installed a custom orthotic in my boots to compensate for some alleged oddity in the way that I walk.
2 weeks later, I picked up my fancy new boots. They hurt like the devil, but I stood with the pain because they were better boots. Eventually, they broke in and I was able to tolerate wearing them for a full day's work.
Time passes....
6 months later or so, the welt starts to break open and the sole splits along the ball of my foot. I humbly return the boots only to be told :"If you had bought Red Wings, that wouldn't have happened." :gah:
I camly explained to the nice lady behind the counter that she should read the label on the boots that I had handed her and that they were indeed Red Wings and they had been purchased in this very store and customized here, too.
They put new soles on them that lasted a whole 3 months before they broke, too.
On returning them again, I was informed that I would have to pay for a second re-soling. I paid the man and have never gone back and never will go back.
