Hey ya know my favorite thing to do is braze!! I wish I could just do that all day long!! Now I just sit at a computer for half the week and only get to do the cool stuff like every other day. I love to braze. I wish someone would just pay me outlandish amounts of money to just braze and braze. Do you think anyone out there just pays a ton of money to just braze all day? I mean I do remember those guys working on the commercial refrigeration piping at grocery stores, looks like they did that alot, but I'm not sure what they made. I think I would almost always be indoors, exept when piping in condensors on the roof right? Whaddya think a commercial refrigeration guy would make to just braze all day long?

That depends on where you live, whether the company you work for is part of a local pipefitters union or non-union. The level of experience that you have, a pipefitter that does nothing but fit and brazepipe all day won't make as much as the fitter that can also start up a rack as well.
Most contractors that install supermarket refrigeration won't take someone thay just hire and turn them loose with a torch in their hand, at least i didn't. there's to much a stake when you talking about a system that holds 2000 pounds of 404 but once you prove yourself a pipefitter can make a decent living.

Well, I have no doubt I could start them up too. That would actually be the easy part i could imagine. pulling vac. adjusting valves, measuring SH and SC, checking oil levels, troubleshooting wiring issues etc. well, maybe not easy, and maybe a little more challenging than brazing all that pipe!! HA HA!! But then again, I love a challenge these days. I got pretty good in the days when I worked for Lennox at PD&R. We used to braze alot there too. Since moved on though and now I'm a little higher up on the food chain. Still think alot about the feild though. LOL!!

I wish that this were true around here. Installers are paid at a higher hourly rate than the guys who get to go back and clean up their crap.
Eh. At least I'm still working while a lot of them are sitting on the bench looking at each other.

I hear that more and more. That's what makes it so hard to find a qualified market tech anymore or start up technician. Since going to the "manufactrues" side if things for the last 5 years things have changed a lot. But one thing is for sure, i agree one hundred percent, I'm still working and can feed the family!

where i worked the supervisor may get 18 to 20 they next lower guy between 15 to 17 and if you were green 12 dollars, which isnt bad coming into the field not knowing anything, usually you get between 50 to 60 hours but that slowed down due to economy, they had construction, then controls and service, in construction we ran all the piping and set cases and trimmed them out and we also set the racks and piped them in, also we set the hill house and condensers and pressure tested and pulled vacuums, all the control guys would do is run the power to the racks and adjust the system. But about to start a family and thats pretty much a road job, so i decided since the economy sucks i use my gi bill and go to school and sit back and relax

around here the supermarkets guys are buzzing. there is one particular company who does A LOT, and uses other contractors as fill in for on call, installation, whatever. most of their steadies make between 125-150 with no problem. of course, they sometimes dont recognize their kids when they get home. they had a standing open position or two for a while, but many guys wouldnt go there for fear of getting burned out from working too much.

I guess you must have worked their to, It would be a all right place to work if they changed some rules, like paying drive time back from the site and given you some breaks inbetween, and their red shirt gods, dont mind working , they have some good people their but iam not going down for one of their bad habits, My buddy works at fournier over in jackosnville in service he says their construction is about the same way,if i ever move that i would go back to twc services iam sure you see them in orlando alot

I never ask for a break, I just take them whenever I want. I always got an hour lunch anyways.....If the people in the red shirt have to work, then they dont need you, just saying..they have a job too, and I dont want thier job..
I dont know much about TWC. Just have had to fix some screw-ups on a few refrigeration accounts that they had. I live too far south so I never talked with them.

Move to Canada. If you have a journeyman license you can get a work visa no problem. I was living in Vancouver making some serious dough last year. But i hated it because i was BRAZING all day!
Go nuts man.
