Hey guys. Im looking for a little advice. I have a job coming up where we have 9 Price stripped down VAV boxes. This store will be supplied with air to us and other stores from a mall rtu. In the specs, they are asking for stats in the office and remote sensors on the sales floor. So basically I am looking for a digital stat with remote sensor that will control a pressure independent vav box. I have asked Price, and they dont have a stat with remote sensor. application. The mall rtu is totally independent from our system. They will supply conditioned air from 9am to 9pm. I know I can use a BAS system but I think the customer wants something "SIMPLE".

So bascially I was wondering if there was anything else out there that would possibly work with this job. An help would be greatly appreciated.

Have used TCS/Basys on similar jobs, not exspensive does the job and nothing TOP secret

A FXVMA will control a VAV good and you can mount the stat remotey.

Do you need to look at the flow thru
the box and set min & max cfm limits
(pressure independent) or do you only
need to control the damper regard-
less of flow (pressure dependent)?

If you're actually pressure dependent,
look at the Honeywell TB6980/7980
"ZonePRO" thermostats. They have a
remote space sensor option (50014156-
002). Nice product for this type of app.

You can look at the Kreuter analog elec-
tronic vav box controls if you need the
flow, but I don't know if you can use a
remote sensor with the thermostat.

The VMA, as suggested, might be a viable
option as well except you get into the whole
need the software tool, network adapter, etc.
thing in order to configure it.

My boss wants a pressure independant stat with remote sensor. He wants to be able to read adjust cfm from the stat. I know price has a stat that will do this but no remote sensor. I thnk he is looking for a cadillac of systems with a yugo budget.

Try Belimo, this is the stuff they have been doing for years.

They do the actuator for the damper, the controller, and the pressure grid for on the side of the duct, plus various options of control - including nice room sensors, with adjusters, etc.

Releatively speaking good value, and not as complex as DDC etc.

They work with DDC if prefered, and can give feedback, etc to help interrogation, fault find.

Their website has plenty of information, and some really useful guides on dampers, controls, VAV, etc.

We have used Johnson Controls and Titus round damper add on before existing VAV. You have to install before existing or you can not use heat coil. The have flow measure probes and damper to control flow and controller boxes. They work without issues as long as the damper modulates properly.
