Did you take any readings when you worked on the machine? If so post them.

Most likely a pumper . You could isolate the compressor and rip all the heads off , recover off course . Fire the sucker up and see for your self . Most likely , she is passing oil . Your valves most likely are toast as well . Have fun .

Pretty sure its a screw with vertical Hartfords on it. Real PITA to get the oil flows right on the POS.

JM The person you need to talk with is Gary Berger at Dunham-Bush in Hartford.
His number there is 1-860-952 1555. These machines have an oil borowing system on them. The oil solenoids for the compressor open on start. Check them I have had a bad coil and that made a problem for a lot of Mechanics that did not understand the D/B. Bob Robert1078

I had the same problem last year. The maint guys were adjusting the actuators when the cond water got to be to cold. What a disaster that turned out to be. While we are on the topic of the vertical screws and D&B how about changing the comp terminals on those hartfords :eek2:

make sure the refrig in the evap is 1 inch above the tubes... the enductor pulls from the v trough right at the top/ middle of the bundle. your going to need some good stable head pressure to jet it back.

Problem then is your screwing with the fill valve on the flash tank tracing the 5 vdc all over the place...

if yours is like mine you have on/ off tower fan control and the chilled loop is short... Good luck... your into it now...

here's what we did:

take the vertical screw(s) and change the current in some river with it (just kidding), install a hanbell screw(s) with mcs control, demo the flash tank, install an exv, put a vfd on the condenser water pump, demo the part winding contactors, install a benshaw soft starter, charge it with new refrigerant after brushing the tubes...

If you ask real nice I am sure Bob will even come out and start it for you...
Bob that little unit runs so good you'd still be proud!

Good to see you on the site Robert...!

Many Regards,
Chiller Rob

Agree w/ Chiller Rob & Robert1078. The oil equalizing lines are supposed to be open on S/U & Head pressure has to be up in order to return oil w/ jet valve. Cold tower water does not help. Look for about 50 degrees of discharge superheat @ FLA for proper charge.
