hi I am in big trouble i am replacing compressor for 5 ton packaged heatpump, very old payne unit,
problem is this one have only 1 piston as metering device working both ways
left and right of piston is distrbuttors for indoor and outdoor part,
so there is no pipe that is in only requid state, and it will be too much work to change all pipings,
can i just install bi-flow filter drier right after this piston? i am in big trouble please help~~~~

Big trouble? Why?
Can it be a temporary filter?
It's going to change the metering in the low pressure liquid line for sure but if it could be installed on a temporary basis until the cooling season, it would probably be ok.
What about a suction line drier instead?
Do you have moisture or something?

let us know how that works out for you.
Call Payne tech support. They will tell you exactly where to install that (those ?) filter dryers. Also if it is a burn out you bettor install burnout dryers ( Like sporlan HH series) or you will be doing this all over again in a few years.
They will also give you the part numbers for the dryers that should be used.

I decided to change piping, installed bypass check valve in original piston and put sporlan 5 ton txv valve and put bypass check valve there too and install by-flow filter drier, for that asked $ dollors more, and owner got stunned, I can fill he is mad he says
go ahead but didnt say he will pay for it, kk
my spolan by-pass drier is HH series hope that's for burned out compressor.
and there is no oil in the burned out compressor, little oil in accumulator, oil smell bad

So you got all that oil out of the system though? Didn't you?
For a burn out you shouild also install a suction line dryer. You haven't called Payne yet have you.

Why? You Worried there might be some wrap to cause a restriction/ blockage in ol metering device. Don't reccomend putting drier after metering device maybe before. I would just install suction line drier and add that oil (acid something) not sure of the name. sorry!

Just a few weeks ago I came across a similar problem with a self contained Geotherm unit.
It was a ClimateMaster with a biflow TXV, so like you described no true liquid line.
I did call the manufacture and they informed to install it after the water heat exchanger and before the TXV. And yes it is in the saturated vapor line during heating, pressure seemed OK.

No I did not call payne yet dont know their number and
most of all, bought the valves already, could been good if I knew its ok to install right after
metering device, I thought it will be ok, but thought it might lose too much heat through
drier and flash gas might make check valve inside filter drier raddle and cause some problem,
by the way, if you install suction line drier, dont have to install liquid line one?
and what would happen if you dont install suction line one, it need to removed later?

You can find Payne on google.
Manufacterers have exact ideas of where to put things like dryers in their sysytems.
You don't need a suction line dryer unless it is a burn out.An acid test kit should give you that answer. If needed and if sized properly the suction filter should stay in place.
If its a severe burn out then the liquid line dryer may need to be replaced after 3-4 weeks. You are correct. The HH sporlan dryers are the burn out dryers
I have never seen a dryer after a metering device.
I suggest you call Payne from a small business that has a fax machine. That way if they want to fax you a print then you would be all set to recieve it.You could try your tax guy, your gas station,a small grocery store and anyone of a dozen places you do business at.

Thanks for the replys, I asked one person with very good knowlege, he said install it between reversing valve and compressor high pressor line, but I am not sure if it will be ok because it will be too hot and its not liquid yet, anyways thanks for all replys

A LLFD will not function as a LLFD if you follow that guys advise.
