I have received two proposals from installers (for Carrier equipment) and could use some hlep in evaluating what is being proposed. By way of background, we are looking for a furnace and a/c or heat pump system for a 2500 square foot (plus furnaced basement) in Northern Virginia. Our goal is to satisfy the requirements for the federal tax credit. Here are my questions to date:
1. One of the proposals pairs a 4 ton outside unit (either the 24APA748 or the 24ANA148) with 5 ton coils (CNPVP6024 and CNPVP6124). I understand that this is very commonly done to improve SEER ratings, but I want to make sure that this is good practive and will lead to real world improved performance (as opposed to paper rating improvements).
2. In working with the ARHI directory, I noticed that the model numbers given to me don't match what is on the directory. For example, I was quoted a 25HPA648A003. I could only find 25HPA648A30. What do these numbers after the A mean? Do they make a difference in performance?
I am sure that I will have more questions as we move forward. I appreciate your help.
