I'm wondering if any signal is sent through the W2 terminal from a Honeywell 2 stage thermostat when the thermostat is setup as a 1 stage thermostat for a 1 stage furnace.

No, or you wouldn't have to tell it that it is controlling a 2 stage furnace when its hooked to a 2 stage furnace.

I guess if the thermostat is set as 1 stage all calls for heat are through W1 then.
Thanks.

I guess if you told the tstat it was controling a heat pump you would not get 24volts to w1 in stage 1 .

I can't say about other brands of t-stat's, but honeywell's multi-stage t-stat's come set up as a single stage. If you have a multi-stage furnace or a heat pump, you would actually have to go into the installer set-up to change it to multi-stage. Don't know if that helps you at all, just an fyi.
