Hi everyone,
Has anyone heard of a carrier 30RA 070 chiller with a vsd condensor fan? I know they normally have a two speed motor, with hi and low contactors. This vsd drives off a board, I assume by monitoring the head pressure via HP transducer, which I found faulty. Replaced transducer, fan ran for one cycle, then failed to start again and unit tripped out on hp. Transducer was reading o.k. Once unit is reset, cond fan would then start up again, due to head pressure still hi. Would anyone have any data on the vsd's in these chillers, showing where the cond fan vsd is connected to what board. Like a wiring diagram of some type. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you have your gouges on it ? What was the HP set at ? sometimes it's a very marginal setting and your VSD might have another control board to control your ramp - up / ramp - down and speed

Are you sure about that Model number ? What refrigerant are you using ?Does it have micro-channel coils (aluminium)? Seimens drive or Sneider electric(telemianique)? Yeah I can`t spell.

carrier 30 ra series have had so many changes on the condenser fans i quit counting. First of all is the vfd energized all the time? Is there a start signal relay installed? The last change i know of the vfd was powered up all the time and the was a start signal to signal the fan to respond. Those are the first things to check

Hi Guys, I'm certain of the chiller model No. the refrigerate is R407C. There is continuous 3 phase power to the VFD, so I'm assuming there would be a signal start relay, which I believe is from one of the boards, reading the discharge pressure. But my manual doesn't show any wiring from a VSD (siemens drive). Not sure about the coils, I haven't been back to site since, maybe later next week.

most vfd's require a stop/stop but it is not necessary but there absolutly has to be a signal. Either a 4-20ma or a 0-10 vdc to adjust the speed. You need to find the manual for that chiller and or the manual for the vfd.
The control circuit will read the pressure or the cond.temp then send a signal to the vfd to drive it.

Is this chiller French Pro Dialog if so you can do an output test on your varifan item 11 or 12 , just put in what % 0 to 100 you want to test at and away you go. I think the signal output comes from the main board channel 7.

Hi Guys,
Finally, I managed to re visit this problem chiller with vfd condensor fan motor. Signal voltage to vfd is 10v dc. Checked over all lead connections, thought I had found the prob with dry connections on signal plug. Used some gue,as used on EXV plugs. Restarted and cond fan ran up to full speed. Ran well for an hour or so, then checked again, had tripped HP again. Reset and again, cond fan started playing up. Just running slowly and not ramping up to full speed, then bombing out on HP again. Checked over all connections, on VFD and A1 board, where signal comes from, all ok. Also tried to run the auto test, d 3 (discharge transducer) failed. Resistance all o.k on transducer and through wiring loom. I believe the VFD is faulty!! Gibbo the unit is French, and signal is from CH7. Thanks.

The full chiller model # is 30 RA-070-A0156-PEE/ Ser: 12P301723. The condensor fan motor/ vfd Part # DK12AB045E (the updated Part # is: DK12AB055EE) Does anyone have an info on these VFD's.Motor is a Leroy Somer. Would greatly appreciate it. CHEERS.
