Waterfurnace Envision installed 11/09. Model NDV038A111CTR. 3 boreholes 150 ft deep closed loop. I live in Cincinnati Ohio. Heats fine but the coils inside the unit is always frozen up. Everthing checks out with the unit, pressures, coolant in lines OK. Installer says this is sometime common for a new install. Has anyone had this happen before.

Has the geo loop flow been verified? How about the sizing of the ductwork? Something's just not right. Call another company for a second opinion, maybe?

Yes, the flow has been verified, everthing checks out.Sizing of ductwork was also checked before unit was installed. Also I think electric bill is higher than it should be. Never have I seen emergency heat come on. Only 1st or 2nd stage.

Is your GEO unit outdoors or indoors? Could indicate a defrost problem either way.

Seems the answers you have been given by the installing company are blow-off answers.

Indoors,in the basement,66 degrees or warmer all the time.

loop Flow rate, actual verses design? entering and leaving loop temps, actual verses design? air flow rate verse design? refrigerant charge temps pressures? I see more equipment that is designed for a particular entering loop temp, and then doesnt see it. this causes these types of issues.

J Ragle,

Thank you for the information. We have been in contact with Arronco, and they informed us that the frost on the lines was due to extremely cold loop temperatures. Frost on the lines is common with the unusually cold temperatures we experienced this winter.

As for the odor, there are many different causes for odors, and unfortunately, we are unable to tell you what the cause of yours might be. We would suggest contacting your contractor to discuss this matter.
