Scotsman is going to replace the harvest assist solenoid on all the new C series machines and the EH remotes made since September 1996. Seems there have been four fires and 37 burnt or melted solenoids.

43,000 machines are affected... I'll bet it's going to cost them a tidy sum. I wonder if Manitowoc still owns them?

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL INFORMATION
Announced February 25, 2010

The solenoid, an electrical component in Scotsman Commercial Modular Cubers that Scotsman shipped from September 2006 through December 2009, can fail and result in an electrical arc that can pose a fire hazard.

Affected cubers have model numbers that begin with C0322, C0330, C0522, C0530, C0630, C0830, C1030, C1448, C1848, C2148, EH130, EH222, EH330, or EH430, and serial numbers within these model designations that begin with 05, 06, 07, 08 or 09. If your cuber has a sticker with green check mark or a flag on the front panel where the panel wraps around the right side of the ice machine, it already has been retrofitted with new parts and requires no further action.

Scotsman commercial flake and nugget ice machines, commercial undercounter cube ice machines, and residential ice machines are not involved in this recall.

If you own an affected cuber, please carefully read the information below that applies to you and request your free repair online now or by calling Scotsman at (800) 541-0520 between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.

I read the history report talking in the ind about how they have 5000 service technicians, and they are the worlds largest maker of ice machines.

Unless I am missing something, they can't possibly have 5000 service technicians. They most likely consider their warranty service network as what they claim as their 5000 service techs. It's such a side step of the truth. I don't like how it misrepresents the information.

I wonder who wrote that??

This is a voluntary recall. Keep in mind that chances of any problem developing are slim. For peace of mind, conversion kits to correct the fault are available from Scotsman through your local distributor.

Had the plesure of working on an American Gas & Machinery Company machine when I was new to the business. I worked for the Scotsman dealer here.
Thanks for the heads-up on the recall though.
