Internal company documents subpoenaed by U.S. lawmakers show that Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) deliberately withheld records in court cases and engaged in a "systematic disregard for the law," according to the chairman of a House committee investigating Toyota's safety crisis.
The documents, obtained as part of a subpoena issued by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, were produced by Dimitrios Biller, a former in-house lawyer for Toyota who is now involved in litigation with the auto maker. (ya think this guy might be a disgruntled former employee)
In a letter to Yoshimi Inaba, chief of Toyota's North America operations, Rep. Edolphus Towns (D., N.Y.), the Oversight Committee chairman, demanded answers about the documents.
"We have reviewed these documents and found evidence that Toyota deliberately withheld relevant electronic records that it was legally required to produce in response to discovery orders in litigation," according to the letter, reviewed by Dow Jones Newswires.
A Toyota spokeswoman wasn't immediately available for comment. Toyota has denied accusations by Biller that it withheld evidence of safety problems from regulators and consumers.
Toyota's impeccable image as a top quality automaker maybe going up in smoke:patriot:

This is why I view tort reform as parallel to gun control. By having the right to buy guns, occasionally bad people buy guns and do bad stuff with them, but other bad people hesitate to do bad stuiff if they think a citizen is armed. So by having the right to sue anyone for anything occasionally bad people and bad lawyers abuse the system and try to win a lottery, but bad companies also hesitate to do bad things because they can be sued. Sorry if I'm hijcaking but this just makes my point, as abusive as some lawyers are, by golly I don't want companies to ever not have the fear of having their pants sued off if they decide to cut corners. Niether way is perfect, but I'd opt for freedom to hire a lawyer/gun whenever I want.

Amen, some fat ass UAW members were picketing a local Toyota dealership in my town yesterday. The pigs were too lazy to stand up, they were sitting on folding chairs dressed like the grim reaper.
Obama is going to have to make sure his ownership of GM pays dividends by destroying the competitors through his willing soldiers in the US media
