Need some help guys..
I had a windows vista laptop with Ax running just peachy!! Then it got dropped.. Hard disk crashed a few days later. I got a new Hard disk, re-installed vista OS got everything working again. I re-installed Ax from original disk and got it licensed again, up and running just fine. I was able to connect to a jace, configure a station no problems. I wanted to work on the station later on when I might have some free time..

Now the problem.. Workbench gives me an error when I try to connect to the localhost platform.

I get a "Cannot Connect. Ensure server is running on specified port" error message.
I didn't have this problem before! Maybe I installed something wrong.

below is the error message.
I sure would like to know whats causing this

TIA

Thanks guys that worked..
I'm just wondering why I needed that extra step...
Did something go wrong during the second install or was it the windows vista OS updates?

Thanks again
This is a great site for info like this.

Something is still hinky with this new install.
I can start a station on the platform now, but it wont let me logon.
Even if I create a new station with a simple user name and password, the station starts ok , but fails to allow me to logon.

I have never run across this problem before..

Anyone have any Ideas on whats happening?

You can capture the standard output and paste it here after you try to logon. Maybe some of us and take a look and make something out of it for ya.

Vista is fine. Check your firewall/antivirus settings. Make an exception for ports 1911 and 3011.

Yeah, do this. I was actually about to post something similar. It really sounds like there are restrictions on those ports.

Is your machine joined to a domain? Are you using a local account or a domain account? If using a domain account, try logging in using domain_name\user_name

Also, does your user account have local admin rights? I don't think it's needed for running the tool, but it is for installing since it needs to create an entry for niagarad to run as a service.

Get the station output after starting the station and before the station connection
run netstat and see if 1911 is listening
Do you have any web service running (e.g. IIS)?
And why "FoxAuthenticationException: Rejected", have you tried to log the station over web browser (when you have web service)?

Ok guys.. the laptop is NOT part of a domain.
the local user does have administrator rights.

Netstat indicates I have an active connection to 127.0.0.1:3011
but no connection to 1911

below is the output from application director before I try to start a station

Yeah, sorry about that - that only applies to the platform connection anyways, not the station.

These are the connection attempts being dropped. Do you have Norton Internet Security or McAfee installed? These also have built-in firewalls... You may have to add an exception there for tcp port 1911 and the station executable, in your case it'd be c:\niagara\ec-net-ax-3.4.51\bin\station.exe

After fussing with this for awhile I created a new station and made the password just "test"... It worked and now I can start a station on the laptop platform.. I must have fat-fingered the password on the original station I'm trying to start.

So, after much frustration and learning whole lot I must thank all you guys for your help on this.

Well, now that I have configured a JACE2 and sent it out to the field and need badly to work on the station so I can get it ready for start-up. Is there a way to recover a password for a station from the back-up files I have on my laptop hard disk?

TIA

just go to the bog of a station with a known good/setup user and drop it under userservice of the station/bog in question....tada...

1: verify and start proper Deamon
2: on the tree...Goto My file system / Sys Home / Stations / expand the station
you will see the bog. hit the + sign next to it and do your thing.

Edit: Oh ya dont forget to save the bog.

Thanks that worked. I notice you can edit the password field in the bog file.. I tried to edit the admin password and it doesn't change. I was able to create a superuser in another station and copy it to the station I wanted to open and that worked.

If you can get in the way I just did, why won't it just let you edit the admin password and save the changes?
