If I drove into a ditch and nobody knew it...and I thought that they could find me by tracking my cell phone.... and they can do this.... just getting thru the red tape to get the phone to do it is the biggest hurdle..... I would be all for it.

We got some places here where if you drove off the road there would be no tell tale sign of a car or truck going off...and they wouldnt find you till someone accidentally did.... even if there were people walking down the side of the road looking. But Im sure all areas of the nation have those kinds of places.

You see.... I am a law abiding citizen and I have nothing to fear.....

We had a murder solved here because the police were able to locate a girls car after finding the area..within a block or so....of where her last phone call was made.

The calls were made in the murders home on her phone..... they found her car down the street....started canvassing the neighborhood and found the girl stuffed in a garbage can in the murderers kitchen.

Unless you are robing a bank, or cheating on your wife like Tiger, you don't have to worry about your cell phone. If they can catch criminals like this I am all for it. If you are worried about them tracking you then use a public phone.

This issue should be pretty simple. The police need Probable Cause to stop you on the street, search you or otherwise investigate you.

If the investigation reaches a more serious level a warrant from a judge is required. There are several requirements that must be met before a judge can issue a warrant. Those requirements are more difficult to establish than Probable Cause.

Tracing your phone calls or getting a location on you falls or should fall into those categories. Emergency situtations such as locating a lost person or a suspected accident allows the authorities to act without prior authorization from the court.

My concern is that some administrations simply act with no regard for the provisions of the law or care for the intent of the law.

Stupid people commit crimes that can be tracked with a cell phone. Smart criminals are the ones that get taken down only after a team of forensic accounts have spent months crunching numbers.
