Could any of you pros point me to some videos that demonstrate the quietness of some brand's furnaces? I've seen a few on youtube. The Trane XV95 seems to be a pretty quiet furnace. Goodman ACs are loud (really loud). Through those videos, I found out my mother's AC is a Goodman labeled as GlowCore. It works really well, and isn't as loud as the ones in the youtube videos, but man, that's a downer. I guess proper installation really does mean something.

Went to an open house for an all-electric house last year. The HVAC guy opened the closet door and I could hardly hear the Rheem HP running. I was impressed. Of course, it might have been the result of a very good duct design or maybe all of those people were louder than I thought.

Lots has to do with the installation and duct sizing. A quiet furnace can be very noisy if it is oversized and/or the ducts are undersized. With solid doors, most 90+ models are rather quiet just standing there listening to them. The XV95 certainly is. Models with louvered doors that you can here the inducer and more of the burners aren't that quiet. Few 80% furnaces can be called quiet.
