Hey guys, this is my first post to the forum so let me first say HI!!! Its a pleasure to begin using what looks to be a great and active resource! Im very excited to share my project with you as i face the few final challenges! Maybe you can help me out with one...
I work in a commercial building which uses Siemens Apogee. Initially we were using these circa 1987 palmtops to communicate with the TECs. These things were seriously ancient. However, in a few short months the palmtops mysteriously disappeared, so now we have nothing. We have at least two guys per shift so it works to have someone at the BMS to make commands while someone works locally to perform the diag/repair. It is obviously not efficient but it has worked. We also have no capability to program TECs as you must do that with a CIS program locally, not from the BMS as I understand it.
Im a gadget guy, so back in the begining using an archaic device (when we had em) on a brand new, state of the art system was kinda ridiculous...but you use what youve got. Because of this, i wanted to perform a little science experiment...to get my cell phone to communicate with the TECs. Ive had this on the back burner but now im at the presibus of greatness....
First, I had to change up the phone. I was using an LG Dare but knew I was going to need windows to make this work. I wound up with a Samsung Omnia which uses Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The learning curve was ridiculous, this phone had way too much going on initially. After using it for the last 6 months ill admit the phone is quirky, but ive grown acustomed to its complexity and im looking forward to the Omnia2!
About 3 weeks ago i finally got my hand on the CIS program. The program loaded to my phone with ease...I still have to load the applications on my storage card though, they were too big to go on the phones system memory so i did not install them. I just figured it out today that ill need to put them on the phone's storage card probably to program TECs for the given application.
Last week I paid a visit to www.vpi.us and found a USB to RJ-11 converter which allows me to plug my Cell into the TEC.
So, ive got the program loaded into the phone and all the right cables so I can plug in. Excited to come to work today, I plugged in and got nothing.
I believe I remember hearing from the Siemens guy that there is some sort of a pin out Siemens TECs utilize which is different than the typical RJ-11 connector ....anybody out there know what pins i need to switch where to enable communications? That would be great! If not, its cool. Im sending an email to my Siemens guy now...wish me luck guys!
