Posting Picture Files

Can anyone give me a pointer or two on how to post my picture file? I followed the instruction to a tee at the top of the post but the pictures come out full screen were you have to scroll the page to see them. Very frustrating!! Pictures came from a digital camera to a computer. Any help would be great!!!!
