Michigan will take another hit.

State employees will pay three percent more out of their pay check for "retirement".
(Teachers, Utility, Road, anybody working for the state)

So if I pay all this in will I see it in the end, NO.

How I know this, they will offer an early retirement package for 30 years of service, you get a lump sum from the "state" and a lump sum from the "place you work at, School district". Problem is, you will receive no vision or dental.
So if you have been working for the state for 25 - 30 years and you are doing them a favor by leaving to reduce insurance and free up the labor force, and have been paying in this whole time they will not cover you if you need a root canal or glasses. COOL!!!!

Will someone please take Granholm back to Canada where she came from in the first place, she is not a politician, she will never make senator, she SUCKS!

How about I pay nothing in!!! How about I can take care of my retirement investments on my own because I am a big kid now!

So you want to retire from a place and get vision and dental coverage from them into your old age? Even Socialist Canada does not provide this. I am sure if you Google it you can find a country to provide this for you. Good luck.

Not really, would not expect much, except when you are already paying into it, why not? So if you give me five dollars a week for 25 years for "coverage" You go see a doctor maybe once a year for a check-up, nothing major, but your eyes are starting to fail and that is the only major thing wrong. But the surgery will cost 1800.00. I think you will ask me for a portion if not all of that 25 years worth of collection to pay for that surgery. The whole thing that I am taking from this is that big brother wants more from our checks but we will get reduced in the end. DONT take if we will ultimately be denied.
I know that she is just a voice or a face for the true evil that runs this state.
I would just hate to be in her shoes right now.

The whole problem was the government has been taking from you for years promised a level of service that could only be provided for with a large young segment of society that is working. The population bulge is bringing on more people that will need services at a time when there is less of a middle class to tax and pay for it.

It was easy to see it coming, our country saw it and started to put its financial house in order in 1996. The problem with politicians is they like to look at the best case scenario, like we will grow ourselves out of our debt, they do not like to consider recessions or downturns that change the black ink to red. If they do put away any for a rainy day the population screams that they are taxing too much. So then they have to borrow in tough times.

I had two classmates from toronto and those guys were afraid of getting sick here. Nothing really impressed those guys, when we where about to graduate they were more than happy to go back home and work. They really did not want anything to do with the great U.S..

Did you know that Granholm has a staff that exceeds the office capacity at the Capitol? The governer has an office at the capitol for herself and her "staff" of people who help with any and every decision coming out that door. They are so big that they need to occupy a building across the street.
Why does she need a staff that large? Cant she think for herself? Why the FUDGE did she get elected if she does not know what to do?

Alas, I hate to see how down my home state has come; born in Detroit and raised in the U.P. (I think I qualify as a Yooper). Unfortunately, this appears to be the result of extreme arrogance on the part of the big auto companies and their arch enemies the unions. Now all will suffer. Just think about it, if it wasn't for the heels-dug-in attitude of the unions, wasn't Michigan the logical place for all of the foreign auto makers to locate? All of the technical, skilled labor, out-sourced manufacturers, etc. sitting right there and nobody would give in. Too bad, Michigan. But I still love ya.

Good for them, State employees have way too many benefits at the tax payers expense.

A Detroit ,Flint, Saginaw, or even a Ann Arbor Cop or Fireman does not deserve benefits. What about the people who actually go in everyday and do their jobs? What about people who spend a portion of their checks for supplies for their classrooms? What about fire departments who use tools barely passing inspection to pull people like you out of vehicles?

I think that there is another straw poll this fall to do that. There was some talk of annexing to Wisconsin but then the topic of the Green Bay Packers came up and that as scrapped.:angel:

I played in the band at the dedication of that big, beautiful bridge. Used to drive up along Lake Michigan from the RV around Newaygo every summer just to look at that bridge, have dinner and race back before the day expired - long, beautiful trip.

What exactly are you paying for that you aren't getting a return of of investment on?

Cradle to grave medical care is not the governments responsibility.

Michigan has over 30% unemployment, if I lived there and had a job with any possibility of retiremnet, paying for a root canal or a pair of glasses would be the least of my worries.

BTW I just bought some glasses, they were 2 pair single vision for less than $100, the eye exam was $59, my prescription reading glasses were 2 pair for less than $50., so 4 pair of glasses and eye exam was about $200.

Eventually socialist democrats run out of other peoples money and you will have to pay your own bills.
