The choo-choo design where some of the condenser is split, BUT NOT all of the condenser is split, such as in the YCH301.

What's the point?

At least there is an access panel provided for hosing them down.

There's always the CGA120/180s that have the nice access panel. However, can you guess where the low ambient fan speed controls get mounted?

I wonder who has the dubious distinction of the first split coil.

The oldest one I've seen was a Dunham-Bush from 1965.
