View Full Version : JCI VAV files not compatible?

I've been trying to modify a sideloop on an AS-VAV141-1. I can connect with HVAC-PRO and commission the existing program, and even save it sometimes. However, if I make a change to anything in it, no matter what I change, it won't allow me to save it to that target device. HVAC-Pro claims the setup is for a VMA controller instead of a VAV. Anyone have any advice?

What version of HVAC-Pro are you using ?

I hope it's 8.04B or higher .

I'm using 8.08b. No other problems I've come across with it.

I have a firewall that's blocking me from uploading directly to here. I'm going to e-mail you the file. Hopefully that's OK.

AMCtech,
You've got mail !

Unless that config is very special it could have only been loaded into an AS-UNT141-1 not a AS-VAV141-1. I have never seen a stock VAV config that will take more than 1 sideloop. At this point I am going to guess that you actually have a UNT not a VAV. They look nearly identical. Double check the part number.

Well, I double checked the controller, and it is in fact a VAV not a UNT. I tried uploading the program you sent anyways, but HVAC Pro supports me in my findings. It says that the program was designed for a UNT but the controller is actually a VAV.
I'm out of ideas. I need at least 2 if not 3 sideloops off of this controller, but I can't seem to get that to work. How could they get this program on there in the first place?

Thanks again for all your help.

OK I have seen this and have done it myself but it has been years ago.

JCI uses a database that can be opened in excel and modified to use a unt program in a vav controller. Is this your code or did you inherit it? It sounds like someone went and did this and then left it for you. you cannot add more than 1 sideloop ever unless you change this config this way. I do not recommend that. It creates more issues than it is worth

That's interesting. I was guessing maybe there was some 3rd party software in there somewhere. I've found today that most of the controllers in this facility are set up this same way. I'd be interested in knowing more about this method. maybe I could test it on a couple of the less critical ones.
You're right about the system. I inherited it, no one else wanted it, and I, being the youngest on the crew drew the short stick.

Save the file as a UNT then edit the config file using note pad and change the UNT to a VAV and save file using notepad.Download the controller with the edited file and then upload and commission. Not sure about multiple side loops never tried it.This does work did it yesterday
Good Luck

Thanks very much for the help. I'll try this as soon as I can make it back to that facility.

Yes, this can be done, I can do this on my other laptop. If you need more than one side loop, or want to put a UNT program into a VAV, there is I think 2 fields to change in one of the dbase files. Easy to do. Let me know if that's what you need to do.

Thanks for the help everyone. I've successfully uploaded the modified configuration into the VAV. The first two sideloops are working well, (as they always seemed to) but the third doesn't seem to follow logic. It's a simple Fin tube relay based off of a Resistive Nickel sensor in the room. It always defaults to open (1) no matter what temperature it is. I can override it to closed though.
I guess I'm wondering if this is because of the number of sideloops, or some stupid mistake I'm making.
Has anyone has had this modified UNT program in a VAV work with more than 2 sideloops before?
I can't upload the program for you to see due to firewall restrictions but I'll e-mail it to anyone who wants to take a look.
Thanks again for the help.
