Hey guys,
I have a Superior tube boiler that has been in need of a control upgrade for some time. The current boiler programmer is an out of date 4140G with a UV minipeeper mounted on a 1/2 sight tube.
My customer approved a control upgrade for better flame failure response times, not to mention preventing downtime on a minipeeper that is getting up there on the hours.
I proposed and ordered a Honeywell 7140G-2008 snap in replacement programmer and a C7061 UV Detector / matching amplifier. The reason I went with the C7061 detector is due to the fact that my boiler is capable of and often exceeds a 24 hour run time, per Honeywell, they want a self-checking component.
So have all the parts and happy with what they should do for me, but here is my problem...

The existing minipeeper mounts on a 1/2" sight tube. Never had problems, but minipeepers should not see over 24 hr run time.

My new C7061 says in the book that it needs a 1.5" sight tube, and is factory tapped for 3/4".

Will my new C7061 detector get a good enough flame signal down a 1/2" sight tube of approximately 2 foot of length???

I'm not a welder, and should have thought about this prior. Any advice appreciated. :anyone:

Minipeeper are fine with over 24 hour run times. If they are periodically checked, as per manufactures recommendations. I have tons of minipeepers on my MUA's that see 24hr pilot run times, but we do check them every 3 months.

As far as the C7061A, if you want to use it, you need a min 1 1/2" sight tube.

My recommendation is use the mini peeper, as specced out already by the boiler manufacture. Just check operation every quarter.

Thank you for the reply, I will be more forgiving on the minipeepers in the future. I did do my upgrade today, and managed to upsize sight tube to 3/4 from 1/2. Flame signal over 4vdc on pilot / main burner operation, passed every checkout procedure in the book. Lucked out!
