I just noticed my A.C looks like an Ice Cube!!
Inside it was set on E.M Heat. It's a Lenox Unit

I just turned it off and the Compressor is still on outside. I am guessing the defrost isnt working..
Any ideas what to do?

Yeah.

Looks like a defrost problem.

A competent technician should be able to straighten that out for you in no time.

Call your HVAC contractor. :callpro:

Pull the disconnect to completely shut it off, then I would advise calling a service tech to diagnose it. If it is set in EM heat only, then the outdoor unit shouldn't be on, so you could have a possible short or defective t-stat.

I want to try fixing it myself first.
Any call to technician is about $+

The fan is on. Everything else is off. How do i initiate defrost on the unit?

Get that #$# roof off it. That's just asking for recirculation and lowered efficiency.

Are you sure there is a heat pump under there? It looks more like an old washing machine. Maybe you need to call an appliance repair company instead. I'm sure that would be cheaper than a call to an HVAC technician.

Its a Lennox 4 1/2 Ton HP19 Heatpump unit.

The cap was actually installed by a technician...lol
He put high enough and made sure it doesn't recirculate.

I am not asking for DYI. I am asking how does the thermostat work?

I am thinking of bypassing it to turn it on the defrost and then put it back. Its warming start next week.

Eh, just leave it run like that. That compressor will stop eventually on it's own.

That's a little past the ability of the defrost.

There is an issue(s) that need to be fixed that caused your problem.

That is the worst ice job I ever seen.

You sure your sprinklers didn't water it for like 3 months?

There are no sprinklers...lol
I was just as shocked.

I just called a tech. He told me don't bother call me. If I cant open the door to the compressor what do you expect me to do?
Told me to wait till its +0C and pour hot water on it...
Great...
I am going to buy a heatdish http://www.elitedeals.com/prhepaelsphe.html and point it straight at the door.

I dont know what you do for a living but do you think I can do it as well as you can? I'd hope not anyway. These things are simple FOR A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL. Just like you might consider your job simple meanwhile I'd have no clue what I'm doing and it would seem to be the hardest job I've ever attempted.

With the ability to read a schematic and learn and understand the functionality of the system I have no doubt you could probably figure it out. But there is a very high probability that you could really mess something up in the process that will require serious $ to fix.

I goto peoples houses all day long and they explain what the problem is, point to a bunch of stuff, and generally have no clue what they are talking about. Come Friday my other work friends will share the stories at the bar. Dont become bar talk! haha

Anyway we cant help you out, at least on this forum because of the no DIY rules. I'd recommend calling a professional. Good luck regardless of what you do...

EDIT: I see you have decided to call a tech. Depending on the temp, water from an outside faucet can defrost that think in no time without doing damage. Dont leave the hose outside and shut the water off inside blah blah when you are done.

Try one of these... (http://www.thefind.com/hardware/browse-wagner-heat-gun)

Sounds like you need a new tech.

I usually am able to pay my mortgage each month just on extra money fixing and replacing parts that homeowners broke trying to fix themselves. I say go for it!!
