View Full Version : AUTO Fan runs continuously after Thermo Change

If this qualifies as D-I-Y I apologize...
I just replaced a Trane Weathertron 239A thermostat with a Programmable Honeywell RTH7500.
Prior to the change, the fan would not run continuously. After the change, even though I have it in Auto Mode, the fan runs continuously even when the heat is not on.
Any ideas come to mind? I never touched any switch on the furnace, and the only thing I did to anything besides changing the thermostat was turning Furnace breakers Off/On before/after wiring the new thermo.
Thanks!!

That is DIY. Read forum rules. It is amazing how many DIY thermostats I change because they don't work right. Call a service company before you screw it up (worse).

You've reversed the continuity on the twin snougle switches....call your Uncle Frank and have him come over. Don't forget to fix the same kind of pie you gave him last time, but add a little more sugar. Crust was great the way it was however. Make the T-Bone medium rare just as he likes it. Even if he can't fix it, the meal will definitely make him happy!!!:troll2:

There is no way, that model of stat has the second generation twin snougle switch you can't reverse it, he had to have wired the perkolater mixmogel vaculation duhicki back feed.

i agree... you have screwed up the wiring.
HW nor myself has been able to determine what is wrong, because it's not the wiring...
Trane (old) / HW (new)
B - blue / C
W - white / Aux
R - red / R (jumpered to Rc)
T - tan / not connected, taped
Y - yellow / Y
G - green / G
O - orange / O/B
X2 - black / E

OK so before you changed the stat.....everything worked good except the fan on/off switch right, and now it does not work right......so what make you think it's not the t-stat?
try this, turn off power
Trane (old) / HW (new)
B - blue / C------remove this wire
W - white / Aux-------remove this wire
R - red / R (jumpered to Rc)------remove this wire
T - tan / not connected, taped----removet this wire
Y - yellow / Y-------remove this wire
G - green / G-------remove this wire
O - orange / O/B------remove this wire
X2 - black / E -------remove this wire
Unscrew t-stat from the wall, place in the original box, with instructions, find receipt, take back to store to customer service, get you money back, return home, call local HVAC service provider, tell them you would like a new t-stat, go fancy like a honeywell touch screen with a remote and out door temp sensor, sit back on the couch have a beer a enjoy your new stat. :couch:

:ghug:Sorry for "funnin" with you, however as mod. has reminded you;this is not a DIY site. You might try "just answer.com" and pay a small fee and they'll truly try and answer your questions. The people on that site recieve a small fee for answering and really do a good job following up with you and some of these same folks are with that site also. Good luck, however I gotta agree with the "take it back" advice. We all see a LOT of "store" bought thermostats causing problems with homeowner's units everyday!

Thought I'd update everyone...it was a stuck fan relay in my handler unit. Either coincidentally occurred near the time I replaced the t'stat, or it'd been going on for a period of time without me noticing until after I paid close attention after installing new t'stat.
