Thinking back about all the cool Senior Citizens I have worked for, and some of the humor they could dish out. I overheard one OL Boy in my hometown tell a friend "He has about as much buissines with that lawnmower as I do havin a pocket in the back of my shirt" I also heard "think it'll rain Frank?" Frank looks up in the air and says "it'll be a hellova long dry spell if it don't" But the best one ever I heard sitting at the local resturant..."Hey, Doc, aren't you going to Sams funeral?" Doc says " I don't know why I would, He's not going to mine." Doc was an old Vetrenarian, and well known around town. He pulled that one off, and the entire place went into an uproar.

Old job foreman on the site for a Luskin's that the owner wanted to open early was asked by his boss "what the hell are we going to do with that huge pile of dirt left over from the grading?" Forman answered "well....we could dig a hole and bury it."

First time I ever met the ladies grand father we were in his shop puttering around. He was telling me about his job at Ingersol Rand. He was a tool maker and said some of the things he made had tolerances smaller than a bugs nut.

My first business when I was in my 20's I teamed up
with an 83 year old blacksmith. We started an ornamental
iron shop. What a sense of humor this guy had. Laugh all
day. When he fed the soft coal into the fire and it snapped
and crackled and sent cinders burning his arm he would
laugh and say " The flies are biting today "
I still say that to myself when I get burnt and laugh.

Thats good. I got many good feeling about old timers.
Even one who gave me a worn out shovel that was cracked and said
"the kid can weld watch" he jacked up the machine and I
basically blew the end of the shovel apart in front of
my boss who laughed and laughed and later promoted me.
Many good thoughts of Old ones..

I worked for a company that hired a ex sheriff for his contacts. He had a lady working in the office and he was always talking about her. He did say he would never do anything with her and told me the best advice I have ever had "never **** too close to your front door"

I have had alot of "old timers" as friends over the years.I never thought anything about it.I thought it was odd to see people irritated by having to talk/deal with them.I guess it started out as a little kid listening to fishing stories by my great grandfather, but I really enjoy talking to old timers. They have some of the best stories even if they do repeat them sometimes.

Mark,
I think you are right. I too recall listening to my
Grandfather for hours talk about fishing when I was
young. That must have left an impression.
My neighbour who just past away was involved in the
early days of the space program. Built some of the
earliest "retro rockets" for satellites. He did have
a few stories that recycled a little more often than
others but I would be happy to sit down and hear them
all again today.
