View Full Version : loud flutter in burners and rollout pops

l.an intertherm g6ra045c-08,80% in horizontal position in an attic.when first fires up all sounds fine.cant be certiain if its when the blower comes on or when its just heating up,but there is a loud fluttering noise after a minute or two from the burners.do not see any movement in the flames when blower comes on.disconnecting blower does not seem to stop noise.no rollout present at all.gas is at 3.42 i/w and no sign of co in the supply airstream.dont come across many of these intertherms.bad heat exchanger? it is the top rollout switch that keep popping./thanks mick

You may have crack heatexchanger when rollout pop when blow comes on.

furnace was valved OFF and switched OFF also!they have 2.i didnt leave running and never would

When in doubt. Do a visual inspection of the heat exchanger.
Probably is cracked.

You'll need to examine the heat exchanger very carefully. You should have pretty good access once you pull the blower motor since its an 80%. Check through the limit at where the heat exchanger starts too.
If there is nothing and you are sure of that you have a DAM problem (dirt, air, mechanical)...
Check the manifold pressure and the speed of which the pressure comes on. Check/clean the rust and such from all the burners. Clean out all the orifices. Pull the inducer off and inspect it and the area its covering.
Being in an attic I could look carefully for insulation that could have been sucked into the heat exchanger. If you pull off the inducer and see a little burnt insulation its most likely issue...
Heat exchanger first though regardless if the blower effects it. The loss of pressure via a crack/hole can do weird things sometimes...
