The question I am working on is what are the differences between residential & commercial HVAC. I cant find anything in my book as it only deals with industrial HVAC. Can anyone spit out a couple choice things for me to write on?
Thank you.

1- size of equipment
2- number of controls
3- complexity of controls
4-residential--------annoying/whinny owners
5-commercial--------generally not annoying/whinny owners
6- location of equpment
7- cost
this probably is not the correct forum to get the most responses

The difference between residential and commercial, There is alot more to consider in load calculation when do commercial (heat producing equipment, more bodies, faster temp swings). Residential is more field fit and run as opposed to commercial is engineered. Commercial uses mainly RTUs or package units. Residential is split systems. There is more someone else can add.

dandyme nailed the easy stuff, but forgot the fact that to do residential you usually at the worst have to walk around to the back yard and set up a 32-40 foot ladder and on commercial/industrial you have to walk and transport all needed equipment and parts a mile away on almost every call. not that i mind the work but untill u become verry efficient in your field you will kick yourself many, many, many, many times when you forget this or that. always know what u r doing, note what you will need and get it there the first time. or else this happens; UGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

My take... Residential is (somewhat) easier to work on the equip, but dealing with the customers takes much more finesse.
Commercial, the equip can be not terribly hard to "holly crap did this thing ever work?" but the people skills generally aren't quite as difficult.
