Here it is again folks! This is our 4th Christmas on HVAC-Talk!

It has been an exciting year for the Sleeth family with the purchase of our cottage. We really enjoyed it this summer and I have been sneaking out there for a day or two each week this fall and winter. Life is good! :)

I want to thank you all for sharing your time, your expertise and your thoughts with us here on HVAC-Talk. I think we do a lot of good for the HVAC industry here and everyone benefits from that.

So, from Don, wife Lucie, daughters Michelle and Nicole, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!

I recognize that tie, I think that was about 1972, my newest tie ;). I would like to say that the reason for the tie was because she loves her Dad so much, but it was more likely a "wear something stupid" day at school so she raided my closet. She's 17, need I say more?

Backatcha. Merry Christmas to all. Thanks for keeping my 3 months at home a bit more bearable. Went to Dr. this AM and got my full release back to work. First call at 0800 tomorrow to do PM on 2 RTU's and then go and run line sets indoors.

Merry Christmas to you and your family and all of our Canadian neighbors.

I know what you mean about kids and clothes. I figured when my boys got big enough I would be able to wear thier clothes. Of course when I see what they wear, I wouldn't be caught dead in them. :)

Yes, that is operation central. I have 3 computers that I work on. My laptop, which is hooked up to the monitor on my left is my "main" working computer. But I work on all three. I also have 2 computers in the kitchen and 2 servers and a backup computer and a domain controller on the lower floor.

I have this very nice piece of software called Desktop Rover that allows me use one keyboard and mouse to control the 3 computers. http://www.neslosoftware.com/

I would have to say that takes multi-tasking to a whole new level.

I can't even fly my flight simulator using the joystick and the mouse at the same time, confusion sets-in quiclky.

Also, I wasn't in the first 5 members but I did manage to run them off I think, they weren't that great anyway, and I am quite sure that one large gray patch in the back of Don's head was my doing as well:) I know I can often be a royal PIA but thanks for the site, it is the best on the net, no one else in this biz is even close.

Thanks Don for the site, its been great being a small part of it. I hope you and yours and ALL the other members have a great Christmas holiday.
Luckily I start my vacation at 5:00 pm tomorrow and don't have to be back at work til the 29th of Dec.
I'll be leaving Sunday to spend time with the family I haven't seen in 15 months. Now if I could only figure out how to drive while I sleep, the 800 mile drive wouldn't be so bad.
Stay safe everyone if your traveling this next week.

Merry Christamas to every one.

What I don't get though, is I see you in this picture and begin to think of how dauting it must be to handle. I mean the computers and the oversight has to be hard for me to imagine. But then I wonder, how your able to do this and make a lving, seeing as how you don't charge us.

I am only assuming but would love to know, is that you must do a hell of a business with the HVAC-Calc.

Don,

This site is a tribute to your personal willingness to raise the bar and invite all to test themselves against it. We thank you for your personal and professional investment in our professional education, association and, most of all, stress relief!

How can we show you our appreciation in a manner that is in keeping with the season?

I know! Let's join together in a carol! All together now...

Oh! Come all ye spiteful, spiteful and 'I trumped him!'

Oh! Come ye! Oh! Come ye to bay-ay-it them.

Come, and let's scorn them, scorn the would be mages.

Oh! Come let us reform them!

Oh! Come let us reform them!

Oh! Come let us reform them,

They fry-est the board!

To you and yours, all the blessings that this and any other season have to offer.

'To give is a blessing to the giver and the recipient. To teach others to give is a miracle.'

Don,
I'm new to the posting thing here on the site. But i've been a reader on the site for along time. I love the site and would like to say thank you for all the work you and everyone does to keep it clean and informative.

I recently posted a very general question about static pressure in ducts and the sizing that goes along with that topic. I guess I got the answer that I thought I would get.
The manual J and the manual D, was basically the answer I got.

I guess I was trying find out a short cut.

More or less. After we take and load the house with the manual J and have the size of the unit needed and the total cfm. Can we just take the acca ductulator and assume a .08 static for the supply, .05 static for the return and size for rigid duct and come out somewhat to the good?

Or "must" we layout the duct by adding up the total equivalent feet and determine the actual pressure drop for the duct, and then go to the manufacturer specs. for the fan performance and etc....???

Is there a short cut? or would we be cutting the customer short of what they are paying for and not get the performance out of the system that we promised them?

Just looking for some feed back on this matter. Thanks and again Merry Christmas!!!!!

Thank you everyone! We have had a great Christmas, very traditional, everyone healthy and that is a bit unusual with my two children and my two elderly parents.

My parents have been here, will be taking the train home today.

We had a bit of a surprise on Tuesday, about 9:00 PM Lucie said there was a "funny noise" coming from the furnace room. I went to check and the water was streaming from the gas hot water tank! Floor was wet as were some of the christmas presents hidden there but the floor drain was doing the job it was designed for and damage was minimal.

I called a plumbing company we had used here a couple of times, a real nice father and son and nephew business that had been here only two weeks before, as well as previously, replacing a kitchen sink drain. We had to take the door off the furnace room and empty it out, including a huge four drawer filing cabinet, full. My good ol' hard working Dad was right in his element! :)

Plumber showed up the next day, the day before Christmas, with a new tank and did the switchover, a few small problems but he solved them and we had hot water again! As we preach here on this site, frequently, it is great to have established a relationship with a good company before the inevitable emergency occurs.

We had planned to take my parents out to the cottage which has been a winter wonderland up until now. Unfortunately it has rained here and then turned cold so all the snow has turned to treacherous ice, so we decided to skip can that plan. Old folks on ice, not a happy situation

We have watched a lot of hockey, played a lot of cards and I have done a little work on the HVAC-Talk computer while it has been quiet. Actually, a lot of work, but most of it was done in advance. On Christmas day I switched the HVAC-Talk site to a new computer, my Christmas present to us all, a server with dual Xeon 2.8 MHz processors, 1 Gig of RAM and a 15,000 RPM SCSI hard drive. The last one was a Pentium IV 2.4 Mhz, but was struggling to keep up on busy nights. I was forced to delete old threads in order to trim the database down to keep up. I would prefer to keep about 400 days worth of stuff, so you always have this season, and the one before it.

So, that's my Christmas, a nice family one, and you guys are all part of it!

and now a Happy New Year to you all!
