Can someone please advise? I'm a GC in Tennessee, and I'm pretty strong in all areas of residential construction except HVAC. I am building my personal home, and decided this would be the perfect time to educate myself (at my own expense :) by installing both systems myself (it seems to be the only way I learn). I've contacted four subs for paid consultation, but they can't agree between them what to to. All they do is call each other idiots. I already have a load calc done, and my vendor has speced in both systems. I just need someone to double check my duct design and set the units as I'm not EPA certified. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you have everyting you need you should be able to find a HVAC contractor that will install it for you. Use one that you use in your buildings. If he does a lot of work for you he might do it for you at a good price. Then you will know it is done right.
Not to be a wiseguy, but who do you trust to do the HVAC in homes you build for others?
Seems you would use the same one or ones you trusted for others.

Don't be so cheap, hire a pro to do it right. The economy will thank you later!

You need to be EPA certified to buy the equipment

sounds to me like you're a cheapo...this isn't a DIY site or does it proliferate illegal (unlicensed) contractors.

No, you do not need to be.
epa.gov. search for the text regarding purchasing refrigerant bearing equipment.

Duct design looks great from my side of the net. I would go with the third design.
Should read the site rules.:rules:

Apparently I'm confusing you poor folks.
1) Money has nothing to do with it. I'm a multi-millionaire. I'm simply trying to learn a new trade so that I can better advise my customers.
2) I never recommend HVAC contractors. I require the customer to select their own.
3) This is not a DIY. I'm trying to find someone to do it correctly, but not at the expense of my not participating, nor learning anything. That's why I posted.
4) Forget I asked.

If you go to your local Home depot I think that you can just grab one of those guys sitting at the curb that want work for a day.

This guy is full of dog crap. never saw a man with a lot of money, who bragged about it.We ought to stop buying from our distributors who sell Honeywell, Home depot sells the same stuff. We need to stick together, we have a lot of power. We just dont do anything about it. im calling my people today and doing it. I have a lot of respect for black people because they stick together and get things done. White people just go around snitchin on each other, "Look boss, he aint workin". makes me sick. The guy from Tenn, well, kiss my semipoor behind

What kind of General Contractor doesn't have A/C subs he uses when he builds a house?
Part of a GC's job is to run the entire job, not make the client pick their subs.
Sure sounds like DIY to me.

What did you expect? (Hire any 4 trades and they'll likely have their own game plan on how to do the job and they'll likely not embrace a plan that is not their own). It's like putting 4 pitbulls in a single pen.
If you're really a successful GC you should be connected enough within your local area to know who the best HVAC sub is in your area. (The single most important factor in choosing a GC is their networking, knowledge and clout with subs.)
I would never hire you as a GC if I had to pick my own subs. I'd sub everything out myself and save your markup.
