I found a refrigerant leak today on the threads of the oil sight glass on this small
compressor. I couldn’t get the sleeve that holds the glass to turn with a pair of needle nose pliers I wonder if anyone else had this problem and what they did other than replace the compressor.

You need to get a oil sight glass repair kit. It comes with the oring that is probably what is leaking. I made a tool for tightening the oil glass. Measure diameter of where the slots are and cut a piece of metal to fit in there and use a crescent wrench to tighten it down

Thanks, I'll check with parts house tomorrow. I hope I can get the sleeve off.

just to take the one inch wood chisel bit a step further. once you grind it down you can weld it into an old 3/8 drive socket.

now you've really got something!

My supply house came up with a mounting tab for a copeland head cooling fan (I think).

You have to cut part of it off but it fits perfect. No need to weld it to anything just stick it in and give it a turn with your universal nut rounder.

I had this happen to me on a 25 tone condensor (was brand new) found an old socket in my van and used a grinder to made a tool for it, works great just keep in mind that there is alot of torque with a socket so be careful not to over tighten and break the sight glass.

Had the same problem today, took a 1" spade wood bit and cut the tip off,
worked pretty good.

What works for me is the sporlan stem wrench, which you can get free (sometimes) from the wholesalers. fit it in turn by wrench .. done deal

(its that little grey piece of metal thingy with alot of square holes on it for turning out or in those tiny txv or solenoid stems .. if anyone was woundering what i meant by a stem wrench....)

Why aren't these tools available at the Copeland dealers? No one has these tools available....Damn, if your gonna make a compressor that needs a special tool, you would think that they would supply one for the techs. for a fee.

I know, it's easy to make the home made variety, but come on...
