-Looking for input/opinions/suggestions on the following hybrid system proposals for a 2900 sq ft house in southeastern PA.
-Does anyone know if Trane is discontinuing their XC95 model? Their website now shows a XC95m (modulating furnace) instead of the XC95 3stage.
-Any specific recommendations on the thermostats proposed?
-Any other comments/suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Yes the Trane 3 stage is no longer manufactured replaced by the modulating furnace, there may be some still available.

The communicating equipment is great, the modulating furnace will allow for a 24volt stat, but I prefer the tcon900.

The modulating furnaces allow for real time modulation. It has 101 steps of modulation with a communicating control and 20 steps with a 24v control.

The last proposal quotes a larger furnace than the others--probably a little oversized compared to the others, possibly to get higher efficiency ratings out of the A/C. Not a good idea.

If the proposals do not include an OEM Trane/American Standard coil, I would ask the dealers to substitute the aluminum Trane coil for the ADP coil (third Trane quote).

The 900 series Trane/American Standard thermostats will have the capability (if configured properly) to dehumidify by reducing indoor blower speed, whereas the 803 can only overcool by up to 3 degrees, and the 802 has no dehumidification capabilities on top of standard cooling (Honeywell 8320 = Trane 802 for the York bid).

The York set-up is the most efficient of all of them - just compare the numbers. Ask your Trane dealer to get something that compares (the answer that you will get, at least on the furnace, is "we don't have anything").

If you are looking for the lowest price, then pick the lowest. If you are looking for the most efficient, get something else from Trane and then do you comparisons. It's the whole "apples to apples" thing. Lastly, ask questions of your INSTALLERS (meet them before you sign the contract) and get the answers that you need to make an informed decision. After all that, go with your gut instinct - it's usually right.

As for me, it would be the York system....... But I'm biased. Do what you feel, and good luck.
