I am about the install a new heater and a new central A/C. The quote is the same for a Rheem and a Day & Night. Rheem has 5 year warranty and Day & Night has 10 year warranty. Which one is better? I am unfamiliar with the brand "Day & Night".

Another question is should I apply for a permit from the city? I live in Southern california

Thanks.

"Day & Night is a Carrier product. Here we will take out electrical and gas permits, your contractor should know(but if in doubt check with local officials)

Is Day & Night as good as Rheem?

Day & Night, like Rheem, has a low end line and a premium line. They would be comparable if comparing like products although Rheem's low end outdoor units are much better built than Day & Night's, which look very much like Carrier's low end. Got model #s?

All R410a Rheem/Ruud/Weatherking products now qualify for a 10 year warranty when registered onlne. Good stuff, so is D & N

Thanks. What do you mean by "registered online". Should I or my contractor register on line? Could you please give me the website?

Now I have the model numbers:

Day & Night N4A348AKA
Rheem 13AJL48A01
Goodman GSX130481

Assuming they all have 10 yr warranty and the same price, which one should I choose?

The price I got is $xxxx for an AC as decribed above, a 4 ton 80% gas furnace and a new duct system, is it a good price?

I have installed all 3, I like the furnaces of Rheem/Ruud the best, very quiet, well built.

i dont see the evaporator coil listed as part of the change out,u might want to check on that to make sure its included. i have to asume that your current system is r22, the equipement listed is 410a and at very least the metering device would need to be changed and the lineset flushed,i would opt for a new evaportor coil that matches the condenser and a new lineset(if possible)

I prefer Rheem because I believe its a better unit just based on my opinion on what I see out there.

Jilli,

I would like to see you choose the Rheem as well, but of the models you listed, the most crucial thing is going to be the installer and how well he does his job. Unfortunately just looking at a tech makes it tough to make that kind of determination.

Are any of the contractors going to perform a manual J load calulation or are they going to guess? This is probably the only presale thing you can get a good idea from. A review of your duct system may also be a clue. If they are only looking to see what adapter they need, then they are not looking at the job as a system, they are selling boxes that they assume should work in any application.

Not that NATE Certified techs are always better, and I am not implying that, but if they took the time to take the test, they at least saw value in it. Much like your car mechanic prowudly displays his ASE credentials. I am not going to start the NATE fight here but in an otherwise blind choice if one has NATE and the other does not your odds are better on the NATE guy.
