All,

I've been checking out threads to understand differences in bypass humidifiers. Seems pass through models might be the way to go, ie Aprilaire 600 vs 400. I don't have a "true" floor drain in my basement. Can the "drain" be a drilled hole in the concrete, such as done when my A/C unit was put in? The A/C unit drains into the gravel field under my floating slab.

Thank for any input,

ckeough

I would not recommend it because there would be much more excess water being drained under the concrete floor, possibly causing mold, bug infestations, termite breeding grounds, etc. Just have a condensation pump installed along with the humidifier to be able to pump the water to an outside location, laundry or utility sink or waste pipe.
Do it right the first time!

They did that when my house was build and the second winter the french floor drain backed up because the soil frooze and the water had no where to go. Had them redo it with a condensate pump and into a waste pipe and haven't had a problem since.

do not run condensate drain from pump to outside if there is any chance of below freezing temps.

Condensate pump and while you're at it, connect the AC drain to it as well. You don't need or want all of that moisture under your slab. The footer drains are there to stop that.
