Hey guys, I've talked to several people about this who claim to know about air conditioning, but nobody can seem to figure out what the problem is.

I will try to explain it as best as possible, please forgive my amateurness.

I have two new compressors outside my home I jut bought. One compressor was installed two months ago and the other is two years old. The same company put in both air conditioners and therefore, they "matched" everything accordingly.

Everything was working fine until I noticed very warm air blowing out of the vents. I called the company that installed it, under warranty, and they came out. The guy replaced something (I'm sorry, I don't know what) that he said had been overheated and destroyed in the compressor. Thinking he fixed the problem, he started the air conditioner and it blew cold air (yay!). However, as soon as the air conditioner was stopped and then turned back on again (anywhere from one minute to 30 minutes), it was then blowing warm air again.

The service man went back to work, going in the attic and spending an hour in my house. Short answer is he could not figure out why it was blowing cold air at first, but when the unit turned off it and started again within 30 minutes, it blew warm air.

He said he has been servicing air conditioners for 20 years and has never seen this problem. He had to call his "Tech support" who said I need a "Hard start kit" in order for it to always blow cold air. Unfortunately, I have to pay for this "Hard start kit" out of my own pocket.

Does anybody agree a "Hard start kit" will fix my problem? Any other ideas to what the problem is?

A last quick rundown of my problem. When I initially turn on my air conditioner, it blows cold and will continue to blow cold for as long as it is running. Once it is off, and then starts again before 30 minutes of being off, it blows warm air. I have to wait about 30-40 minutes until I can turn on my air conditioner again to blow cold air.

Please ask any questions if you need me to specify anthing and THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!

Seriously, you need to hire another HVAC company.

Seriously, you need to hire another HVAC company.

I considered that, but the problem is simple economics. Right now he will charge be $ for the part and no labor (because of the headache) to put the "Hard start kit" in. IF that does fix the problem, then it's worth it. IF not, then I need to hire another HVAC company, pay for that, and still out $.

On the other hand, another HVAC company charges an initially service call out fee and then money for whatever the problem is.

The first company, although dumb, doesn't charge me anything because everything is under warranty.

See the dilema?

Then talk directly to the service manager and insist that they send out their most senior service technician.

Any service technician with basic skills would be able to trouble shoot why your system in not starting correctly. More damage can be done if not corrected in time. Then have them explain what happened, what they did to correct the problem and have that in writing on your copy of the service invoice. Each time a tech comes out get insist on a copy of what they did and why.

Good luck.

Great idea! I will do that tomorrow morning.

In the mean time, so I have a basic idea and maybe a leg up on the service tehc, any ideas to what the problem could be? Anybody ever heard of that?

i think most of us see this fairly often but each job has its own personality so to speak. hard to see your unit thru this monitor. find a service person
who has more than 1 years experiance 20 times.

If his company is in Missouri give me the company's name. I'd like to have a list so next time I need a job I know where to find a boss who will appreciate me.

let them put the hard start kit in, pay them after you know it works.

Is this the 2yr old or the 2 month old system? What has changed that all of a sudden you need a start kit? Did the indoor coil get changed to match the outdoor unit? Does it {indoor coil} have a non bleed TXV? You need to know the answers to get to the bottom of your problem. The start kit may take care of your problem or it may just mask the symptoms.

A hard-start kit is just a band-aid - not a permanent fix. Both of your units are too young to need one of these. I think you're getting the run-around.
