Of these two humidifiers which one is better
with respect to:
Efficiency, Energy Consumption, Risk of Mold, Comfort
THUMD300APB00A Large Bypass, Auto Control All Furnace Models Up to 4000 sq.ft. Up to 16.8 Gal. per Day
THUMD500APA00A Fan Powered, Auto Control All Furnace Models Up to 4200 sq.ft. Up to 18 Gal.

Either would be fine, if either is put on a heat pump system I would sugjest putting it on hot water as the lower supply air temp of a heat pump doesn't evaporate the water as well. Ask your contractor about this, they can start with it on cold water and switch it later if needed. The 500 is going to use more energy as is has a small fan to circulate the air across the pad, the 300 uses the indoor unit fan to do that. Mold issues are maintainance issues, humidifiers that are not serviced have more mold build up. The other mold issue is with-in the home, if the humidity setting is to high you can get mold growth in carpet, walls, furnishings, etc so care should be exercised that you don't get to much humidity in the house.

We install mostly the large bypass. I prefer the Honeywell Steam.

The bypass would be the most energy efficient of the 2.
