Specs on this compressor?

Hi, I'm looking at buying a house that has a Kenmore compressor unit, but I can't tell from the label what the size is (tons); is there something listed on the label (attached) that provides this information? Also, on the fan cover it says "High Efficiency 5000."

The 18 in the mod number. means 18,000BTU.

hmm, that seems small. The place I rent currently is a similar size and construction, and last year the compressor unit was replaced with a 2.5 ton unit (replaced a 1.5). Of course, the blower unit is a heckuva lot better than the one it replaced, too.

Your place may now have an oversized system.

true, but when the problems started here, I was told that it was partly due to an undersized unit for the space (single story, 1000 sq ft., built in 1971)... knowing that there are more factors...

A 1.5 ton may have been too small. Or, your duct work too small.
Now with the 2.5 ton blower, its moving the air that the 1.5 ton should have.

Maybe your house needed a 2 ton.

Lot of 1000 sq ft houses only need a 1.5 ton.
