Should a TXV kit automatically be part of a high end heat pump/air handler? Or is it something you have to ask for to be installed. I thought I read somewhere that they should always be installed with a dual stage compressor for added efficiency. True or false?

What has thrown me off (besides not knowing much about HVAC :grin2:) is an AHRI Cert. for one of the systems I am considering. The equipment combinations on the certs. are driven by the need to qualify for the tax credit. Cert. #1492756 for an Amana ASZ180481A lists the indoor unit AEFP426016C +TXV. The other cert. #552730 for a Lennox XP19-048-230 has no TXV showing with the air handler CBX32MV-068-230.

Is the TXV just a natural part of the Lennox, or is not required to meet the specs shown? If not required, would the system be more efficient with the TXV?

Some air handler coil combinations, only come with a TXV. So no reason to say plus TXV.

Thanks, I was hoping that was the answer. Are you inferring that the Lennox combination mentioned falls in that category?

It may. I don't know. But I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

Foor Goodman/Amana, a TXV is optional depending on the air handler/coil and may have to be purchased separately, although it is required to obtain the AHRI ratings for SEER/EER etc.

In the model number of the air handler, AEPF426016, the "F" means that it comes with a "flow rater expansion valve". If the model number were AEPT, the "T" means that it would come with a "TXV".

Take care.

Most Lennox Air Handler units come with a built in TXV, and the Amana/Goodman units have an external mounted TXV that needs to be installed to get the higher SEER ratings. On a service note, the external mounted TXV are MUCH easier to service/replace!
