I am in the process of getting a new HVAC system installed here in Florida. I have narrowed it down to a specific dealer, who is the one who put in my current York system when the house was built 15 years ago. The other two dealers I spoke to did not fill me with much confidence. The two heat pumps I am trying to decide on are:
Lennox XP19-048 w/CBX32MV air handler
Amana ASZ180481 w/AEPF426016 air handler
I pulled the AHRI sheets for both and the Amana wins the SEER battle 17.5 to 16.9. However, the Lennox wins EER 12.8 to 12.5, which I suspect would be an advantage for here in Florida. The Amana wins HSPF 9.25 to 8.65, but heating obviously is not a big concern. They both are 73 dB, dual stage compressors, variable speed air handlers, ya-da, ya-da, ya-da. All the bells and whistles seem very similar. The Amana wins the warranty battle with the lifetime compressor, and also has two years labor vs. one year for the Lennox.
I am being told the Lennox is being discounted by $1000 so the prices for each are almost identical. The dealer seems to be pushing the Lennox as higher quality, but I don’t know if that is the real reason or not. As you can tell from the numbers, they both qualify for the tax credit.
Can anyone offer up some distinguishing characteristic I might be missing, or even better give opinions on the quality of each?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
