To qualify for the $1,700 rebate, one must also purchase as York t.stat and 2indoor quality products, whatever they are. Is the rebate worth it, if you are locked into buying the 3 additional items besides the York Affinity HVAC unit?
"Rebates start at $50 on select gas furnace models and go up to $1,700 on an Enhanced Premium System, which includes an Affinity air conditioner or heat pump and a matching York variable-speed indoor blower (furnace or air handler), a matching AHRI coil, a York thermostat and two York indoor air quality products."

Good system, but a sales thing, You pay for rebates.
Use a good dealer and get prices without gimmicks..

I agree.
My Summer is almost over and the $1,500 federal energy tax credit goes thru 2010, so I might wait till next Spring and hope that York offers a less restrictive rebate program next yr.

The rebates have the same requirements every year.
Saying you pay for rebates,is like saying you pay for 50% off at the mall.
Though it does depend on how the contractor handles the rebate, for us you save,as the price is the same year round.

Is York's t.stat and indoor air quality equipment e.g., UV devices, air cleaners, fresh air ventilation, humidifiers something that I need or are they fluff?

Depends on how the contractor handles pricng. Our price is the same year-round,so the rebate is real, like a sale price.

Carrier doesn't require add ons/IAQ products to get the rebate?

It appears that Carrier does, albeit only 1 add-on, an Infinity Air Purifier
"On qualifying products, consumers can receive up to a $1,200 rebate on a Carrier system when purchase includes an Infinity Air Purifier"
In this part of Florida,it's a 10 year P&L warranty to get $1200,instead of $1000.
You can get an additional $125,by adding an Air Purifier and UVC light.
