been working on houses for a long time but never involved in the HVAC side of things, until I now need to replace my old lennox heatpump/A/C system. hopefully you guys can provide some insight
3 different contractors have provided the following 3 estimates:
#1)
Heatpump: York THGD24S4S1S1
Fan/coil: York F4FP040H6T3X
(this heat pump is only rated at 13 SEER, not sure why he didn't quote a higher SEER unit so I could qualify for the Govt tax credit, What heatpump would you recomend?)
#2)
Heat pump: Lennox 14HXP-024
Fan/Coil: Lennox CBX27UH-024
#3)
Heat pump: Carrier 25HPA530
Fan/Coil: Carrier FV4BNF002
I believe the Carrier is a variable speed fan, which I like the option of, I'm not sure if the other two units are.
considering they're all in the same ballpark, what manufacturer would be best to go with, or what equipment will provide me the best experience?
Thanks!

Just in case you are not sure what qualifies for tax credit see: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=tax_credits.tx_index#c3
To insure tax credit applies have the contractor write the AHRI certificate number on his proposal and verify for heat pumps at: http://www.ahridirectory.org/ahridirectory/pages/hp/defaultSearch.aspx
In addition, did you check out manufacturer rebates and any utility or local/state government credits that apply?

I'd consider the Lennox XP-14 over the 14HXP. Will cost a little more, but much nicer unit, quieter too and you can get up to 16 SEER with certain indoor units.

Did you asked each of the installer for references to call and ask your neighbors what and who they use and what they might recommend on using ?
I'm partial to Carrier, and have the 3 stage equipment and like it alot and has served me well for the last 2 years.

That particular lennox air handler is not variable... for variable speed (if you're interested) you'd be looking at the CBX32MV-024 model.
If all prices are comparable, I'd go with the Lennox or Carrier. Both quality machines.

what area of country do you live?
Did you notice that the York and Lennox systems are 2 ton while the Carrier system is a 2 1/2 ton? What size are you replacing?
The Lennox system has a low end condenser and a non VS air handler. However the AHRI performance/eff numbers are very good.
As mentioned the Carrier system is 2 1/2 ton Performance 15 mdl with matching VS air handler. If heating is just as important as cooling, then I recommend the "H" mdl Performance 15 for better heating efficiency with best match VS air handler 005. see below.
1169029 Active Systems PERFORMANCE 15 PURON HP CARRIER AIR CONDITIONING 25HPA530H30 FV4BN(B,F)005 30000 13.00 16.00 28800 9.20 17700
I will not comment on the York since I can't find the match from the directory.
I do know the Lennox and Carrier systems qualify for the fed govt tax credit.
IMO
