I don't have any really interesting pics yet. Good installs look kind of boring, aren't they.

Maybe I don't get the picture, but isn't the electricity to go from the house, to the disconnect and then to the condenser?

That maybe a low voltage wire in the 2nd set of conduit

Low voltage must also be in a conduit in Connecticut

That is a strange design for a condensing unit. What brand is it and what were they thinking? That top is just an invitation for people to set things on.

We used to have to run it in a conduit until they came out with this new UV proof cable that is approved for outdoor use. Our inspector okays it and he is a real Adam Henry.

Oh duh. Your post said that it was a Trane condensing unit. The design of the condensing unit looks like one of those trash recepticles.:)Carrier used to have one that looked like a caned ham. Does anyone remember them? But your install looks good.

I fixed one of these due to blackout/low voltage problem
last month. I was intimidated at first wondering if it
could speak. But that panel where the sticker is came off
just like any other. Diagnosis was somewhat easy. As I
removed the cover a number of small parts fell out.
I picked them up and discovered the top contacts of the
contactor ( single pole I might add ). At first I wondered
why someone would leave parts in the unit but discovered
the disintegrated contactor. Seems it must have chattered
like machine gun for awhile until it blew apart.
New 40 amp double pole, check current/volts and away
it ran. I think they look nice, very quiet, the top
diffuses the sound.

I like the design too of these units.. Help protect the fan blades from the snow and ice falling off of the roof. I heard one of these running, and I agree with actnowhvac on how quiet it is.

mayguy did you get an answer about how to post pics?
I went to the
Please Read Site rules and Instructions

I used the IWebphoto but ran into full albums
so I wound up getting a small 5 mb space myself for $21.
Then just follow instructions.
There is probably empty space but I didn't spend much time
looking on the HVAC account. Lots of pics there.

The ImageWiz account is much better.

They used a single pole contactor for a reason, the idea is, keep one leg to the compressor hot to act as a crankcase heater. Never said it was a good idea, but it does work.

They have seperate crank case heaters installed under the compressor, no bleed system on these units. single pole is used because it is cheaper.

I will. I just assumed they had insertion heaters. Havent had to fix anything on one of these yet.

Actually, a single pole contactor costs more than a 2 pole, at least they do in this part of the country. Generally, manufacturers use them because they're cheaper than an insertion, or wrap around crankcase heater.
Install looks quite nice, good to see someone putting in quality equipment! Have a good one, and keep up the good work!

Nice install.........but why not run the seal-tite out the bottom of the dis-connect??

I'd like to see a little more room between the unit & home too.

Nice work......keep it up!! :-)

p.s. At least the unit is LEVEL too. :-)

Now all they need is a new house to go with that new, sexy unit.
