Buy the best company you can find to install your new equipment.....

Equipment is equipment....in the right hands it will last a very long time and will provide you with great comfort and reliability....in the wrong hands it will be the biggest money pit you have ever seen....

Did your quotes include a manual J (load calculation) on your home??

If not...keep searching for a good contractor.....

Good luck

If its the same contgractor proposing both brands. Pick the one with the features you want.

If its 2 different contractors. Pick the better contractor.

PS: Ignore consumer reports. You don't know what kind of contractor installed the equiment, so you don't know if the equipment had afailure, or if the installed caused the equipment to fail.

In my 34 years in the fields as a HVACR service technician I have found all of them to be pieces of junk.......if they're not installed properly. On the other hand, neither of them pay me a penny to endorse their equipment so I can't tell you which one I would recommend to you.

Agreed. Those numbers are so skewed anyway. Mostly they are based on sales volume versus problems experienced based on those numbers.

Not many home builders putting in American Standard equipment, but tons using Bryant/Carrier.

So maybe the question should be, "Is there a brand that resists or tolerates bad installs or is more forgiving of bad installs than most?

Bad installs kill equipment.....PERIOD

Take a look at our "Wall of Shame"

Many of the systems on there didn't last HALF of their expected life span

I would buy one from a contractor that has been in business for awhile and has good reviews. All the equipment is the same, Goodman has a better warranty than York. York has problems with their Evaporator coils leaking, but so does everyone else. So pick the one you like the best from the contractor. I like York's a little better then Goodman just because they are a little easier to work on in my opinion. So like I said, just choose the company you like the best and go with them. A good install is the key to a unit lasting the longest.

Then why did you mention york specifically? Is goodman any better in that regard.

The company I work for sells both York and Goodman I really don't feel theres much difference in either, I like to install the Goodman over York because I just think they look nicer IMHO. I think the yorks are a bit easier to hook up guages to but I haven't had any call backs on any of the systems I installed.

I would see what features, warranties, IAQ, ect and the price range you want and select a company thats you feel is good. Also make sure you a get a load calculation like someone else said.

It really depends on the install like others said.

I have replaced a lot of leaking Goodman coils along with leaking Yorks!

Best contractor wins over equipment every time!
