View Full Version : 3 Week trainig school
Has anyone heard of Allied Career Training in Dothan, AL for the HVAC training course. They state there a nationally accredited school that trains you hands on and gets you EPA certified in 3 weeks. Please advise if you know of this school. I live in Miami and contemplating doing the course.
Thanks

I don't know of the school, or their course.
But, with a study book, you can be prepared for the EPA test in 3 weeks.
Desn't mean you will know how to work on HVAC equipment.

Just do it on line, or take a course, I did my with a few hours of reading afterwork.....less than XXX bucks maybe for the EPA certification.
Heres a free study guide:

The local community college here offers it for less than $100 and 1 day. I believe several of the supply houses offer it for about the same. I don't think a 3 week training course will get you even close to knowing how to work on hvac systems. Maybe get you ready as a helper.

Someone with absolutely no HVAC/R experience whatsoever could train themselves to pass the EPA certification test in one evening if they have the study guide and decent reading comprehension and retention, lol.
Thanks for your reply guys. So this 3 weeks so called accredited training and EPA universal certification school would not do it, not even for entry level HVAC position huh!!!!.
They state they fly you there provide you with hotel and food included in the tuition. Train you 90% hands on and after your 3 weeks you will go back home trained and EPA certified to start working?

Ok, I just looked up the school, I've heard of it before.
It would likely be enough to give you a leg up on an entry level helper position over someone with no training or experience, but certainly is not even remotely on the same level as a real tech school or good community college program.
Neither one of those will get you starting much higher than the bottom, but at least they provide the opportunity to learn the basic refrigeration and electrical principles involved.
The 3 week program isn't even enough time to learn that

Alex,
It seems to me that if you're serious about an HVACR vocation, you'd be better served by training at a more in depth institution. I could be wrong on this but I think that three weeks would be sufficient time to get you horribly confused and render you dangerously incompetent.

Meh, that's a whole week longer than you need to learn everything you need to know to be a tin knocker. :p

Check in your area. If any companies are hiring people with no experience.
