I am a contractor and I have a customer who is looking at putting a ductless system in finished walk-out basement (new construction) vice conventional. The will not use the space very much except but want to have it cooled/heated for college daughter and infrequent visitors. I am wondering if this is the best way to go for cost effectiveness vice a zoned system (I quoted) long range. My costs for installation would be alittle less for ductless combination. Any comments on efficiency for:
three 9,000 btu air handlers & one 28,500 btu outdoor unit MR Slim efficiency up to 16 SEER

Any thoughts on teh above system and does anyone have thoughts on a combination of ductless and conventional.

Somebody better do a load calc and see what size the basement needs. Done right, I'd think a zone off the main system might be the easiest way for both heat & cool, especially if using 2 stage equipment that could run on low if a small zone was calling for comfort.

The 3 zone Mitsu isn't going to be cheap and lots more to go wrong though you can have the basement zoned in 3s rather than 1 big zone as probably necessary tapping on to the main system.
