Local Bed & Breakfast has a Carrier wall unit about 10 years old that went bad. Do the newer ones typically have the same wall sleeve dimensions? Thanks for any info.

yes they usually are the same

PTACs are 16x42. There are wall units smaller, some are 16x27 which are somewhat standard, others are not.
