That's a long way from old Mary Louise Miller's place. Stuff was piled 6' high with narrow paths to walk through. Took 20+ minutes to unbury the grille in the floor where the hogs-hair filter was stuffed.
After her mutt chomped on of our techs and he called the county, we've not been back FORTUNATELY! That used to be the call the rookie got!

It's not that bad, I can see carpet in two places! How big are the residents? I see lots of fast food, but no excercise equipment. I hope they never have a fire, at least while their home.
A guy I used to work with called the health department on a lady, and it was in the news here for a few days last year. She had 50-100 dogs in her house, all inbred, all starving, eating their dead brothers, waste-lots of dog waste....
Yes, that is worse than any I've been in, and I wantt to keep it that way.

I just remembered another nasty one. people let their dogs go in the basement. There was so much crap on the basement steps that the plumber we sent to open the clogged drain through up on her carpet - and he cleans sewers for a living! Sorry, I put up with too much from my own pets. Of course, their just animals, what is your customer's excuse? Did they see you taking pictures or did you sneak them?

Nice!!!! I guess the 65 count drum liners were used for something else and the dust buster on the wall must not be working or maybe it was a gift and they thought it was "one of those new high tech telo-phones".
We worked at a house that needed a new furnace but my boss said we could go until he made a path from the front door to the furnace. Upon arrival we entered to see stuff piled up about three to four feet in every room. We had to install a r/a in the wall (furnace had none and was not to code) when I started cutting the wall the vibration must have awaken the biggest nest or cockroches in the wall they came out every where. Then also you could hear the mice running through the piles. One thing though He had the nicest bass boat I ever saw (real expensive) and had a gun collection in another room that was not cluttered and probabley worth thousands of dollars.
Strange world isn't it.

Trust me this is nothing!I think the worst one ever was a guy that had 2 dogs peeing all over the house.the smell was so strong from ammonia that your eyes would burn like fire.the walls were stained dark brown about 18" off the floor throughout the whole house. We had the best respirators without air tanks you could get & it still got through. The guy was on disabilty for lung/breathing condition.I wonder if his doctor knew he was killing himself with toxic levels of ammonia? This house was so nasty the guys working there would pee outside! The one guy got there & turned outside to barf before getting 3 feet in the door!

It looks like it might of been a nice house in the not too distant past.
I bought an apartment house once. WHAT WAS I THINKING? It only had 2 apartments but it was one of the happiest days life when I sold it.

If adults want to live that this that is their choice. But if you ever walk in a house like this with children in it you need to look for dangers in their reach....like meds, old food, feces, needles, sharp knives etc... Then turn the scum in to child protective services...heck call 911 if you have to.

changed out furnace once in house with 43 cats, 9 dogs, and a freaking monkey that would take your tools and run away, and the homeowners daughters were nurses!!
The worst I ever saw, was an apartment.
The living room had two single beds, unmade and dingy gray.
The floor was covered with dirty diapers.
There were kittens loose on the floor.
The place smelled of pee and dirty diapers.
The kitchen was just as bad.
The electric stove was a 4 burner hot plate with leggs.
It had a half inch of grease covering the sides.
BUT, on the table was a bowl of GREEN scrambled eggs!

Notice the spray bottle cleaner hiding between the stove and the door. You can almost hear it saying "No way! I can't handle this mess, I'm just going to blend into the background and hope for the best".

Sorry, this looks staged. The crap houses I have been in have literally crap all over. Notice the surfaces like the small brown tv table by the chair. The surface is not caked with old food, drink, nor, are the floors. underneath the piles of junk except the carpet. The couch and chair are relatively clean. So, maybe this person is fairly new there and just getting started being a slob. For all the fast food bought, there is little in the bags or wrappers. Wish I could be that clean in my truck! Lettuce always falls everywhere. Guess I'm a slob.
Never seen a shiny tub in a crap house either and the toilet usually don't work. Towels look new, not moldy. The sinks a bit crappy tho, used more than the toilet or tub?
There is one full trash bag by the hummels in the curio cabinet so they do know what heftys are for.

CLEAN??? How can you say that??? Makes me want to hurl just looking at it - and I am by no means neat. Look at the carpet infron of the chair - whatever was spilled dried and cracked there - the chair has brown streaks running down it - the table must be new, that is why it is not crasted yet. More than one bathroom?? That would explain the clean tub - or they are the type not to use a shower.

Let's look at what we have here...
1) Judging from the products, this is a female resident, right?
2) The medicine bottles are in very plain view
3) The house looks like it WAS very well kept until relatively recently.
4) There are bills all over the floor.
5) There are weight control and dietary aids, amid the mountains of food-related garbage. Note the large quantity of coffee cups. This is a person seeking serious stimulants to lift up their emotions and energy level. The lack of any food refuse in the cartons, in conjunction with the serious stains on the chair and the dirt around the bathroom sink, speaks of a person who has become seriously into food as a means of solace, and isn't about to let any of it go to waste.
I would say that it's an older woman who has lost a loved one and has lapsed into a serious depression, or possibly a bipolar who has lost her spouse, the one who maintains order and balance in her life.
I think this person needs serious psychiatric help, not our disgust. Yes, the mess is disgusting, but I don't think this person WANTS to be a slob; I think she's in trouble.
Looks like one of the guys emptied his truck, before going to work!!

I once fixed a heater for a friend's brother and they had 23 weenie dogs and most of them were in the house. They were yipping and yapping the whole time. I ended up with a splitting headache. I thought that was bad. Having worked for a couple of apartment complexes I've seen some raunchy living conditions.

Can't go without putting in our 2 cents worth. Install manager still can't believe it. NASTY HOUSE! Not only did the people have umpteen dogs and cats but chickens too! That's not all, the family goat had it's own door into the house! It would simply butt it's head against the door to go in and out. Needless to say the bottom half of the sheetrock was gone due to feces, mold, urine, etc. Raw sewage in front yard. Clothes, food, trash piled , you name it, all over the house. I wouldn't believe it but all installers couldn't have made up the same story. We installed new system purchased by their parents, who were in their 80's and worked all their lives to pay for their childrens problems. You know the type. When this system goes out, the parents may not be around to buy them another one.

We realy seem to like these nasty house stories. Probably because we have all suffered through those calls, misery loves company. I hope our wives read this - make them appreciate what we sometimes have to go through to bring home those paychecks.
My wife asked me how I got some bruises on my arms today. I told her, a 26" wide air handler in a 36" wide attic space. After dismantling the return duct to get in, I had to carry any tool I would need in my hands, because I couldn't bring my hands back to my side. Funny thing, it was my physical therapist's house. She asked me how I was going to get in there, I said "this is why I have a bad back."

With all those empty coffee cups you would think there would be less trash right in front of the toilet. After all man or woman has to have feet in front of john, right? They just point in different directions.
A little less eating out probably would pay for maid service.

Nastiest place I ever worked: HO met us in the yard and said "I'll go clear you a path" (Should have guessed when we saw all the cats in the yard) I opened the front door and almost puked from the smell. Down in the basement the HO was using a scoopshovel to "clear a path" We stopped counting at 75 cats in the basement alone, not counting the rest of the house, all using the furnace room as a litter box.
We installed a b-vent Bryant gas. The next winter I had to install a new pipe from the furnace to the chimney. The 24 gage pipe had crumbled to dust and was venting into the basement. I don't think the HO would have known or cared about the pipe, but the HSI had dissolved and the furnace wouldn't light.
Two years later the furnace had huge holes in the heat exchanger and casing, and the burners were completly rusted. We installed a direct vent, hopefully she won't call again.

You know I have said no to cleaner places. I dont know how you do it. Not me. Just like a few years ago, I was working with a fridge/plumber (dual ticket) and we were working in a building that has a sewer lift pump. He says to me "If you ever get a call here after hours and the high level alarm goes off, you have to go down the pit and pull out the pump, Some times tampons get caught in the imperller." My responce "What does it say on my shirt? REFRIGERATION... Not **** pump cleaner. You got another thing coming if you think I am EVER getting into that hole!" haha Never worked with the guy again. haha. lifes too short.

I was in a house like this with garbage piled 6 foot high. The owner called because she smelled something from the duct system.. I kindly told her to get rid of the garbage and she would get rid of her problem. She insisted that the garbage was not a problem! I charged here apx. 750 to clean and sanitize the ducts, clean the blower and motor. Had to pay the tech more money to do the job because of the filth. To this day I have no idea why I sold it to her in the 1st place.... Never again... Not worth it!

My husband took me to this web site to specifically show me this picture. We have 5 children and I am always complaining about how messy things get. He is always telling me that even at it's worst, our house cannot compare to many of the homes he has worked in. I have always thought he was just trying to make me feel better. I guess not!
I feel bad for the person who lives there. I noticed how clean and shiny the tub was. So, perhaps it is usually not that bad. From all of the alcohol wipe wrappers, cotton, medicine bottles, and what appeared to be (get well?) cards, I wonder if they were unable to clean due to recent surgery. That would account for much of the take-out food as well, since they may also have been unable to cook.
If nothing else, pictures such as these should make all those husbands who live in clean homes with homemade meals appreciate their wives. As well as help wives like me appreciate what their hard working husbands are often subjected to!

I believe my tales of yuck are not much to compare to all these previous but, I submit them for your perusal anyway.
The first is a floor furnace changeout done at a rental property of one of my employers customers. The woman who lived there had complained of no heat in the early part of winter. One of our lead techs went first to check it and fix it. He got a changeout approved by the property owner because it couldn't be fixed. I was a rookie at the time and was assigned as his fetcher and toter. When we got to the place, I noticed the woman there had a dog. The dog was confined to its bedroom and had eaten its mattress, only coil springs left and wisps of fabric on the steel. The dog was making a snack of some of the remaining fabric when I saw it. I found out where the woman disposed of the remains of the mattress released by the dog. She swept all of it into the floor furnace. Normally those things are heavy enough by themselves, this one weighed about four times what it should have. The waste was maybe three or four inches from the top edge of the furnace. And, since it was so ungainly to handle, both of us got seriously covered in the dust of the contents of that furnace. We had to turn it over and dump it out in her yard so that we could get it into the truck to haul it off for disposal. It was rather a large pile of doggy-doo.
Her reasoning was, best I can remember, "I can't bend down to scoop it up and it'll burn off in there so, I don't have to worry about throwing it away."
The other was a no-cooling call at a home in an up-scale neighborhood of tract homes. With this employer, I had developed a habit of leaving my shoes untied so I could step out of my shoes when entering the customer's homes and not track stuff into the houses. The customers absolutely loved this from me. I got a lot of attaboy's to the boss from customers because I took my shoes off. Anyway, I step out of my shoes to enter this house and I notice a small amount of untidiness around the living room, more than I had been accustomed to in other houses in this neighborhood, a few small kids running around the house in various states of dress and undress, dogs and cats. As I was walking into the house to go upstairs to the attic, I notice the carpet is being rather CRUNCHY under my sock-feet. I explained to the woman of the house, I forgot my flashlight, it's in the truck I'll be right back. I went outside, put my shoes back on, tied them up, got a flashlight and went about my business. I do not remember all that I did there, other than cutting about three feet tall grass from around the condensing unit and removing the kids toys from the top of it, I just remember the carpet crunching under my feet. It sounded like I was walking on cornflakes and there was nothing like that on the carpet. I don't know what was there and I'm still scared to find out. Who knows what I was walking on. YEEEEUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK!!!!!

I've got two to add. I knew a guy that bought houses and rented them a few years and then flipped them. He purchased a very nice brick two story colonial from a woman who had inherited from her father. He felt sorry for her and allowed her some time to move out. He called me over to check out the HVAC. This house had it all. Baseboard heat, an oil furnace and a heat pump. I went by there with a co-worker to take my first look and he warned us at the door that the house was a wreck and whatever we did, don't open the refrigerator. We walked in and there were boxes and clothes everywhere and it was unclear whether someone was moving in or out. In the kitchen trash was everywhere and dirty dishes were piled in and around the sink, all over the stove, and even in the cabinets! I went to take a look at the equipment and make a parts list but my co-worker simply had to open that refrigerator! The new owner had stepped outside. Within two seconds of him opening that refrigerator I was gagging and I was 25 feet away. The owner was outside and within a minute he smelled it. My co-worker was traumatized and never told me what he saw in there, perhaps the father?
The second one was a job we did for a trailer leasing company. They leased a large sectional trailer that had been in storage for several years. It had package units that had to be set on top after all the sections were assembled. Racoons had gotten through the caps that were placed on the curbs when the trailers were in storage and made the ducts there home. It was around 100 degrees and here we were driving two hours to a job to clean up racoon crap and sanitize the duct and patch and seal it as needed where they had chewed through it (ductboard). Then we had to set the units (5) and put in bad air sponges and pray that we had done enough to kill the odor. At the end of the last day I was feeling about the worst I have ever felt. We packed up and the last thing on the truck was the water cooler. I downed about two quarts of water before putting the cooler on the truck and my co-worker drove towards home. The combination of the water, the motion of the truck, and the AC did me in and I tossed up all that water right into the step on the van. After that I actually felt better. We stopped at a convenience store about twenty miles down the road and when I opened the door all that water splashed into the parking lot. It formed a stream and ran for 100 feet across the parking lot. My coworker stepped in it coming out of the store and then realized what it was. That set him into gagging. I tell the guys that work for me that I will never ask them to do anything that I wouldn't do but when they here this story, that doesn't give them a lot of comfort.

When I used to work as a maintenance supervisor at an apartment complex my make ready guy lived in my old apartment. It was so bad. He would drink and mess around on the internet every night. There was a mountain of coors light cans in his kitchen you could not get to the paio door and his patio was full of bags of trash and cans. His living room was a maze of old newspapers and tools and various junk. I still go back to visit him every once in a while to marvel at his messy apartment.

I remembered another one.
I went to a house in an older, upscale neighborhood. The complaint I got was an odor whenever the unit would turn on. When I got there and the HO opened the front door, I knew what the smell was immediately, strong sewer gas. I was told that this had been going on for awhile and was getting stronger as time went on. The lady of the house told me that her husband and father had been under the house to look at the unit and thought that the problem was in the ductwork. I went under the house to look at the unit and found no opening in the return anywhere, couldn't find the reason anywhere near the unit. As I was crawling out, I found the reason. There had been an addition to the house not too long ago and a new bathroom was part of the addition. The toilet was in a rear corner of the addition and I found the P-trap under the toilet flange had come apart and there was a HUGE pile of waste under the bathroom. At least a year's worth, unless there have been a lot of people using that bathroom recently.
What got me was, how did the husband and father miss this? I told the HO what I had found and suggested they call a plumber and once that problem had been rectified and the mess cleared out, they wouldn't have that odor problem anymore.
I still get tickled when I think about that one.
Pics like that make you wonder I suppose. Like the posts earlier... If you could question the home owners... You'd get a better idea. This is not the kind of yuck that should turn stomachs really. As messy as this house is, gross, yes.... but some of the filth stories are the real Yuck! I was installing a split A/C in a mobile home. The house was nice, well kept... but they had many barn cats. They weren't big in numbers, but there were about 12 or so. It was musty under the trailer. I found myself cramped and damp while under this muddy, spider infested place. With the 'soldier's creed' of get the job done... did exactly that. It was putrid under there... and if you've been there... the neck was getting sore from holding my head off the muddy ground. Eventually, I did lay my head back. Instant wet... not from the mud... but from the rotting carcass of one of their missing cats. I held my guts in... but my partner didn't when I emerged from under the trailer... when he saw maggots in my hair. Funny what we can endure, and what we cannot.

That is bad. But when I did nothing but rental property work I saw a couple of places a year like that. They always wondered why they couldn't get their deposits back. The worst I saw was a old house that an alcoholic doctor locked himself in for 18 years and didn't throw anything out. They removed one entire 20 yard dumpster of nothing but bags of the crushed beer cans. Then there was 20 yrs of newspaper, mail, trash, etc etc.... took 6 guys 5 1/2 weeks to get to the upstairs. The roof had holes in it that you could stick your head through from the attic. Nobody had been in the upstairs for 9 years.

My wife had a rental place and this the sort of mess we found when we finally evicted the bastads. There were 4 litter boxes overflowing, some of the feces was white, thats been there a long time. They had so much crap, even after they left and took what they wanted, we filled 2 12.5 yard dumpsters with more trash. They had two kids and I wish I could find where they are now to report them to DHS.

I think that place is gonna need something a little heavier duty than a dust buster
I work on a few mobile home parks and the first thing I tell them is that if the house stinks I'm not going in. Good thing most of them have package units. What I really hate is when those nasty slobs send there kids to get my phone number. I'm quite greatful to be married on those days.

I think whoever is living there has placed some of that garbage... If you look closely at the fast food trash there are cups stacked in cups and napkins in those... similar to what you'd see if you emptied the trash at a Burger King, i.e. trash that someone picked up after bussing a table.
It was once a nice place, there's even a small piano against a back wall in on of the photos. Seems to me someone moved into the place and is trashing it on purpose.

This house is nothing. You should have seen the farmhouse I was at today! The dairy barn was actually cleaner than the house!(The state regulates the barn lol)

Good WORK Holmes.... I was thinking that too... too many clues left behind to think it was a lazy person/persons. Now that I've had time to digest it all. Ok, maybe I'm trying to substantiate the condition of my Appartment...

since this thread was started I went to the nasty of nasties the other day. Before I went in the guy said they havwe pets and it smells a little bit. What an understatement. There was no furniture in the place that wasn't shreaded. **** was evrywhere , even smeared on the walls. That is the fastest leak search I have ever done on a evap coil. The guys that had to change it out went in , came out , and puked right in front of the h/o. It is the only time a H/O has ever offered me a gas mask to be able to stay in their home. no joke. the install guys did call the health dept. but never heard if they did anything about it. funny though I never saw a cat while I was in there. Looking at the furniture it coulda been a lion in there.

As sickening that was it was funny and made me laugh.
The person who started this thread must be really strong because there is no way that I could have stayed in there. I would have been gagging the whole time.

"We are getting ready for a garage sale." That one is new to me, I like it. Maybe we should walk in and just say to the homeowners, "I see that you are getting ready for a garage sale." haha

Collard Mansion is what we call it in NY. It's an old story of 2 brother who live in a big house.
After one of them died the Other went crazy and filled the house. I mean realy filled the house from the floor to the celling with crap.

That house was incredible! I'm in sales, and I have seen some messes before, but nothing quite like that! I freak out if I have dishes in my sink when someone is coming over. I guess you find all kinds of people in this crazy world! :-)

ive seen a lot of these houses. the one that sticks in my head is a call for a floor furnace in an apartment. lady had about ten cats. the furnace was covered in cat hair on one side. the other side the paint was peeling off from cat pee. got under the house and there was a pool of congieled pee that looked like oil. it was still driplng like honey. the pilot tube was eaten through and the millilvot valve was covered in it. i did the rebuild (gaging the hole time)and started it up. the apartment filled with grey smoke. it smelled just like crack burning.( friend was a crack head for while)i couldent breathe had to leave. house was disgusting she dident even notice the stench.
I never smelled crack before... but my cat peed on the cylinder head of my motorcycle... and during the 'warm up'... I was wondering while the aroma finally hit me... "Stir fry, yeah, that's it! Thinly sliced and stirfried..."

Oh man, you called that one right. I think many service trucks probably have this much garbage stuffed into the back corners of them.
