Here's another reason for not working for a Subway.
This is from a compressor failure/replacement I just
went through. Notice that there are two liquid line
filter driers on this unit, and one is on the
hot-gas/discharge line before the reversing-valve.
No, it's not a muffler! To add to this; the condensing
unit is three floors above the fan coil units( about 130ft run), with no oil return protection; ie. traps or
double suction riser. Only one drier on this unit now,
but the owner doesn't want anything done with the line
set. I told him it will fail again! I'm not paying
for the next compressor, it's in writing!

a burnout without changing/adding new suction/liquid filters is just plain old stupid.feel free to print this & send it to him lol

Valves went bad, not a burnout. Did an acid test, is OK. I did install an oversized HH drier though, just for safety sake. The problem is oil return. Line set isn't set up to return the oil to the compressor. Next time it probably will be a burnout.

Thanks for the thread. Looks like a big debate over those L.L. Driers being on the discharge lines.

Mine had two L.L. Driers on it, so I removed the one on the discharge line, (a Parker L.L. Drier), installed new tubing between the comp. and reversing valve. Then I installed the new HH reversible drier on the liquid line. Two driers in series are a no no! I don't think they have enough velocity to carry the oil back, no traps either. 7/8 out of the indoor and outdoor units, with 1-1/8 suction line in between on a 2 ton unit. Oh ya, this is a Bristol, but I don't think it's the compressor's fault. I think the installing contractor used existing lines. It's not Subway's fault either, but a lot of Subway's have work like this done out here. Maybe they need more reputable installation contractors. They always go to different contractors for installations for some reason.
