Besides old and ugly :) - I was wondering what type of duct is pictured on the right. It seems like just a browish/black paper covering fiberglass.

Basically, the two duct types have pulled apart on this supply duct, and cold air is leaking into my garage.

What is the best thing to use to connect the two back together? Duct tape OR tape coated with mastic or duct sealant?

Thanks!

The duct you have appears to be sheet metal with fiberglass insulation. Sorry but no DIY here, although if you go to an AC supply house and ask they will give you exactly what you need.

Should be a quick fix, but looking at that duct it may be time to rip it all out and replace it. I recommend a professional for that since it's a hot miserable job and the pros can get it done much faster/better than you can.

Seen it on space pak systems, crap comes apart and develops pin holes.
