Trane RTU txv retrofit

Someone posted pictures of a retrofit they did probably a year ago, I have searched it and can not find it. Anyway I have a 7.5 ton Trane rtu that has a stopped up orifice header. I have ordered a new header 6 weeks ago and cant seem to get one in, but thats another story. I was thinking about putting a txv on it but wasnt exactly sure how to do it. The part I am not sure about is after the txv what size tubes go to the evaporator coil and how do you tie them in to the txv. This is a small rtu with one circuit and about 8 orifices on the header. The unit is not used in june or july it is on a school but I have to get this fixed before school starts back. If anyone has done this before or can find that old post I would appreciate the help.

We've done quite a few of these but it's trully a pain. Trane uses the same evaporator on TXV and orifice equipped units. Just go to Trane Parts Center and order a replacement distributor/tube assembly and a TXV for your 7.5T. If your parts center is friendly and knowledgable they should be able to help you.

Just did a header replacement. It takes 6 days for them to make it. Customer was not happy.
I wish I had just gone out and bought the right TXV.
Anyway, the new header worked fine--nearly two weeks after I ordered it.

I'm just wondering how long until the other circuit clogs the orifices. It had the same blanket between the condensers as stage two.

You can always make you own distributor, just use equal lengths of 3/16 or 1/4 inch tubing, figure on placing the valve in the middle of the coil utube side, and make all the tube long enough to get to the top or bottom in equal length. You can have the unit up and running in a couple of hours with some copper, txv and a torch.

hey there chad nc just had to do this last week to a trane tcd151 yes 3/16 refrigeration tubing works great 50 foot roll should get you done for one circuit i just made my own distributor got a 7/8 to 1 3/8 bushing reducer and a 1 3/8 cap and drilled 3/16 holes as previously stated make sure all your distributor lines are equal length

Whether you get one factory built, or make your own, either way it is time consuming and a piece of tedious work.

Try your American Standard Distributor the use the same part numbers I believe.
